Uniforms Are Realistic

I may have missed if they explained it anywhere, on the count that I've been trying to stay away from Atlantis spoilers, and if I did I'm sorry, but...

Does the SG Atlantis team actually KNOW that they are going to meet a new hostile species? If not, then that could explain why they aren't decked out in military clothing. If it was originally supposed to be a mission of peace, then you wouldn't need a ful military uniform or a lot of weapons. Agree? Disagree?

Disagree. They are venturing into the unknown. Common sense would dictate that military personnel would bring weapons and expect the worse in unkown situations. If anything, they might bring more weapons. If they do encounter peaceful conditions then no need to use the weapons. Better be safe than sorry...

They didn't know that they would meet an enemy, but they were certainly prepared to. If you'll notice, the Marines did wear their MARPAT camo, and have worn it since for specifically tactical missions.

I think the point was that it was a purely diplomatic mission with a military escort. The idea is to seem a lot less threatening.

IMO, the uniforms look a like they would be something we would use, although at times, I am wondering why they do not wear the same uniform, I mean as a team and all.
