'Vampire Diaries' ratings: They don't suck!
This should make up for those lackluster Melrose Place numbers.
Vampire Diairies drew an impressive 4.84 million viewers in its debut last night, making it The CW’s most-watched premiere ever (even beating 90210 last year). Among females 18-34 (a.k.a. The CW’s sweet spot), it notched a strong 3.1 rating.

I watched it. Not as bad as I had envisioned it could be...and I saw Twilight. You still got your teeny angst stuff, but not as much as I had feared. I mean you are still going to have your fluff as it does have a target audience, and apparently I still fall in that target age by a couple of yrs , BUT it does have some substance to the story.
I think the story has promise and some interesting backstory hinted at that it can build from...though I have never read the books or anything about them. The actors are pretty decent and the dialogue isn't that bad which is a plus for me.
The pilot held my interest. I'd say give it a watch and go from there. If you are expecting BtVS/Angel quality story telling/dialogue then I'd say skip it because I don't see that ever happening, but it was a step up from the Twilight movie, imo.IMO always implied.

I thought it was boring and felt the characters were far too monotonous. Everyone is pale and emo and they spent most of the hour wandering around being angsty or telling their diaries how angsty they are (just in case folks were too stupid (or too dazzled by the pale, emo skintones) to pick up on it). Bland actors in bland roles with generic settings and generic emo music.
I can remember being a teenager, so I know it can be rough, but I don't remember being miserable ALL THE TIME which is how all the kids seemed. The moment anyone starts having a good time, something horrible happens to kill the mood. I know emo is all trendy and cool, especially when there are vampires involved, but ye gods, this show is UNRELENTING about it.
Or that's how I felt, anyway. I'm not gonna bother trying again. If Vampire Diaries was a food, I'd classify it as a cold, congealing lump of unflavored oatmeal.

I don't know if I'll stick with it or not. I usually watch something else in that time slot on Thursday nights anyway. Only gave it a look because my other show hasn't started.IMO always implied.

It is really just Twilight The TV series.
Sort of Vampires come to Dawson's Creek. It was generally a bland and cliche teenage soap with a couple of vamps.
The lead guy is strange casting as i can't see the fangurls thinking he's all that HAWT!
It drew impressive numbers on its opening, but I imagine there'll be a drop off once the curiosity viewership factor is removed.
I won't be watching again and it only took one ep. I could sense it aint gonna get any better or be any different.

When I was younger I loved the four books, they were good books with a good storyline. When I heard they were doing this TV show, I had high hopes. When I saw the promo photos, I knew it wouldn't be close to perfect, but I still had hope. The hope is deader than vampires. Now its more Twilight than Vampire Diaries. I kept waiting for Stefan to sparkle... and that's NOT a good thing. Why? Why did they mess this up?
What is wrong with the CW?
I should have never left SyFy for the hour.WraithQueenH

"I'm not sure I like the sound of that."
"There is much about Wraith that you do not know, Sheppard."

"We all agree the Ancients were pretty screwed up. All the ones I met were arrogant and condescending and not for good reason. Now they made giant mistakes and never fixed them." - John Sheppard

Vampire Diaries - Episode 1.03 - Friday Night Bites - Promo
http://spoilertv.blogspot.com/2009/0...friday_18.html
On the CW, Vampire Diaries was down from its premiere last week 24% to a 1.6 rating for adults 18-49 (from a 2.1), and 26% to a 1.7 rating for adults 18-34 (from a 2.3). That’s quite a drop in blood pressure. Supernatural fell 14% to a 1.2 rating for adults 18-49 (from a 1.4), and 13% to a 1.3 rating for adults 18-34 (from a 1.5).Last edited by Madwelshboy; 18 September 2009, 09:25 AM.
