soylent green, the planet of the apes series, Frankenstein(old B&W), Frankenstein(80's version with Robert Deniro ), all the star wars except the new 3D one that just came out.
Vice Admiral and occasionally the Acting Leader of the Gateworld Cantina

Wow. 4 pages and no one has mentioned Flight of the Navigator yet.
Also, Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2. I don't think anyone has mentioned Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure yet either.
Or Dark Star. Although, Dark Star should be seen only if you like strange sci-fi movies.
And, I will repeat:
Back to the Future
Back to the Future, Part 2
Back to the Future, Part 3
The Last Starfighter
Serenity
Transformers (2007) The Time Machine (1960 & 2002) The Day the Earth Stood Still (if you don't mind B&W) Contact
Independence Day
Stargate
Logan's Run
Titan AE
That's all I think of at the moment.
Titan AE, haven't seen that for years but i remember loving it, i assume it's often dismissed as a kids film because it's animated, but it really is good, if i remember correctly

I actually like Independence Day, but I think it's favour left over from my childhood. I don't know. I certainly wouldn't rank it as one of the best, but a semi-decent watch if you're into a popcorn movie that makes you jump at least once...
...or not, but you know.
I'll join the masses in listing the OT Star Wars as some of the best... just happened to re-watch them today actually...and I know I'm probably, again, viewing it with the same childhood nostalgia, but I still think they're very good. And ROTJ is still my favourite. Even with the Ewoks.
Hmm what else...
Serenity
The Fifth Element
Starship Troopers
Terminator 2
Mad Max 2
The Matrix (first movie ONLY)
Transformers
V for Vendetta (does it count?)
E.T.
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Island
Stargate

I have to admit that the original Planet of the Apes (haven't seen the remake) did not impress me at all. Apart from a marvellous last scene...blah.
Generally, my knowledge of older sci-fi is embarrassingly small.
And much as I love Galaxy Quest and Spaceballs...no, not the best.

...so far
I just saw Aeon Flux last weekend. It was sooo cheesy.
Equilibrium is one of my favourites, fantastic movie.
That is indeed a matter of opinion. Watch for yourself before you judge off this comment.
Loved Short Circuit, one of my all time favorite movies... not so much the 2nd one.
Alien ( All the films but the 3rd )
Stargate ( New movies also )
Planet of the apes... liked the new version not so much the older one.
I am Legend
Transformers?
The Mist
Species (Original movie)
28 days later
The butterfly effect
War of the worlds- 2005 version
Hellboy?
The Matrix Films
Dreamcatcher
Jurassic park - first one was the best.
Bicentennial Man - One of my top favorite movies.
Lost in Space
Robocop
The Abyss
Planet of the apes... liked the new version not so much the older one.
...and then I saw this, and all your credibility went right out the window
"A society grows great when old men plant trees, the shade of which they know they will never sit in. Good people do things for other people. That's it, the end." -- Penelope Wilton in Ricky Gervais's After Life
Star Trek movies - Any of 'em really. Well... except for The Final Frontier and Nemesis. People should avoid those two at all costs.
Also, Dune (1984 film) was awful. Utter garbage. I found that movie to be a complete waste of time. Ugh.
what about voyage home? that stunk like extinct whale carcass.
and i liked dune... although the book and miniseries are both better.
