Hey, if this new one means they're going to ignore the POS that was AvP1, then this film has tremendous potential. The sort of potential that AvP1 itself had, before it was completely and utterly squandered in every way even remotely conceivable.

Well it just seems to me that this new one will simply be Aliens and Predators kill every human in sight except for one or two who survive by sheer luck. To me, a good movie that does not make.

While I still believe that Alien and Aliens stand head and shoulders above 3 and the dreadful Resurrection, 3 was by no means a bad film. Aliens was a huge departure from Alien, and Alien3 was a huge departure from Aliens. A well-done one, at that. 3 was just a victim of the monstrous popularity that was attained by Aliens.
I highly disagree I felt 3 tried to hard at being like the original Alien and failed miserably at it

        what lore you say?

*points to the entire bloody franchise that existed long before that horrid movie came out*

AvP has been around for a LONG time infact its been hinted at ever since Predator 2 featured a Xenomorph skull on the trophy rack at the end (the the first official AvP crossover came out in 1989 long before that crappy movie came out)

Over a decades worth of comics, books, and video games.

You know I just looked at the re-name of this thread and realized it sounds like some sort of kids movie, AVP Rainbow.

I was pretty impressed with that trailer, and it looks like they're setting it in the future which is good. Unless those ships in the beginning were Predator ships...

Anywho, it'll probably be as awful as the first AVP movie but it looks like a slight improvement although the predators shouldn't be murderering kids and teens, and did that child near the beginning in the forest get facehugged?!

I don't know about this movie, I definitely have doubts considering the first one was a steaming pile of crap.

True, but I did appreciate nods to the earlier films in both series. Example, Lance Henriksen played a guy with the last name of Weyland. "The Company" from the Alien series is called Weyland-Yutani, and the android Bishop was also played by Lance Henriksen, so it brought things full circle to people familiar with the franchise.

As far as Alien 3 goes, I thought it was great. It had a very unique atmosphere, and was miles beyond Alien: Resurrection... which just plain sucked.

I haven't seen AvP yet but if anyone in the UK is interested it's on Film Four tomorrow (Monday) night at 9.00pm.

True, those minor references were quite good but the storyline was ballsacks.

I agree, Aliens and Alien 3 are my favourites in the franchise.

My thoughts on each Alien and Predator movie:

Alien: A true horror classic! It was scary, gross without being overkill on the gore, added a conspiracy subplot through Ash, and had a claustorphobic feel by setting the story aboard a space ship with a mere crew of seven.

Aliens: A supperior sequel that features Ripley returning to the world where the alien was discovered, but this time she's escorted by Marines armed to the teeth! This plays out more like an action movie rather than a horror film. The ending with the Queen was awesome!

Alien 3: Stupid movie that ruined the ending to Aliens. The story was OK, and I did like Ripley's sacrifice at the end. What killed the movie for me was setting it on a prison planet. Why not set it on Earth? Since Sigourney Weaver prefered the series to be set away from Earth, how about an alien world uninhabited by Humans? Imagine Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop trying to survive a lone alien with rocky mountains as the setting. Bishop could have stayed at the escape pod while the other three try to survive the one alien. That would have been far better than the lame prison-planet story.

Alien Resurrection: A vast improvement over Alien 3, but not as good as the first two. I really liked how they brought Ripley back as a clone with some new surprises. What annoyed me is that all of the soldiers were presented as dumbies, and the scientists were presented as evil. Why not portray these guys as genuinely good guys who simply don't realise what they've gotten themselves into? As for the cargo, why did it have to be people? Why not gorillas, eh? I also found there to be too much gore and cursing.

Predator: Original, scary, lots of action, and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger! This is deffinately a man's movie. I found there to be too much death in this movie, but it's otherwise pretty good from what I remember.

Predator 2: A good sequel, but Schwarzenegger is missed, though Danny Glover is a welcome addition. The Predator was scarier in this movie, probably because he seemed to move faster and be out in the open rather than hiding in the jungle and killing from a distance. This movie has more gore than the original, which I found to be disgusting. I also found the cursing to be waaaay over the top! This movie would make sailor's cringe! Aside from those two issues, I enjoyed the movie.

Alien vs. Predator: I found this to be a good crossover movie, and I don't understand why it gets bashed so terribly. I liked that there was less gore, resulting in a PG-13 rating. As for bland characters, well... it's a horror movie. You expect depth? The only Alien or Predator movie with any depth is Aliens, the others are just straight horror movies about people trying to survive being eaten/hunted by an alien.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem: Since I enjoyed AVP, I am looking forward to the sequel, but the preview has way too much gore... I may wait for the video so I have the option to fast forward.

                      What. On. Earth.

Did you uh...you know, see the first Alien movie?

That's kind of a silly reason to not see/delay seeing a movie. Both franchises are hallmarked by lots of violence, and this seems to be a return to roots.

Yes, I did. It is a good movie, but there's hardly depth to it. The whole movie is seven people running a cargo ship, one gets infected with an alien, and the remaining six must attempt to survive the alien that birthed from the infected man. Scary? Yes. Deep? Not really...

Perhaps, but then I also fast forward through some scenes of the various movies. I watch for plot, not for gore.

                          agreed

I actually cared for the characters in Alien/Aliens cant say the same for any other alien movie

how can you take 2 well know R rated franchises that are known for extream violence(especially Predator which was the standard summer 80's blockbuster gorefest) and try to kiddify them is beyond me

expecially since Alien and Aliens didnt just have gore going for them and had good characters/plotlines other than them getting ripped to shreds(the whole plot about Ash in the first movie was intreiging and the Newt/Hicks/Ripley dynamic and the plotline about them being used to get aliens back to earth to be turned into super weopons joy!)

The economic concerns of the various crew? The cameraderie of the crew when left to their own devices? The vast and mysterious alien ship? The female/male dynamic? The reveal of Ash as an android? The reveal of the company as being far more heartless and profit-driven than we'd realized to that point?

There's plenty of depth to it.

I didn't say you should be watching the movies for the gore, but to skip/delay seeing a movie because of it seems kind of...I don't know, immature? That's not really the right word but it's the closest I can think of just now. Blood and gore are just a part of the movie. Hell, the original chestburster scene in Alien has become one of the most iconic scenes in cinematic history.

I think its different this time.
Predator kills unarmed people to prevent them from beeing captured by the Aliens and turned in to drones. He is probbaly just trying to stop the spread of Aliens.

I also think AvP2 is going to be like the Aliens movie. Only focused on the untold part where Simpel folk trying survive the Aliens. Which from the trailer is going to be really cool. No more Over-dressed-armed-to-teeth marines. Just the simpel inhabbitents of a simpel American town.
And no big-shots Stars either. Which is great i think.
