Only Nu-Companions I ever liked was Martha. Amy&Rory were ok but the Love Triangle crap got old after a while.

The love triangle only lasted about half a season. Through all of series 6 and 7 they were very much the married couple in the TARDIS.

As for Martha, I'd describe her as possibly the most boring.

Martha at least was normal and had a bit of a handle on her life unlike all the others whose lives were hot messes. Especially Rose and Donna.

Since a majority of The Doctor's companions were female, I'm guessing that a majority of the new Doctor's companions could be male.

Could be, but not necessarily possible, but considering the probability... they probably will be.

While I'd like to see more male companions I'd kinda hope it wouldn't be that quick of a turn around. For whatever reason the Doctor prefers female company. I'd like to see that continue. Although what I'd really like is more multiple companions at once.

I wonder what gender s(he) will be mentally? The Doctor has been physically male for a very long time, can he shift gears overnight? Or will she be a male persona in a female body?

And I really hope they don't overdo the possible comedic aspects of the sex flip. The franchise doesn't need to go for the low hanging fruit.

I think one of the key thing to choosing a companion is that they can look out for themselves.
