Set the Tardis controls for Thursday 25th December 2014 at 6:15pm – the date and time of Peter Capaldi's first festive episode of Doctor Who has been officially confirmed in the Christmas schedules!

Last Christmas, which also features Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald and Nick Frost as Santa Claus, finds itself sandwiched between Strictly Come Dancing and Call the Midwife on BBC1 on Christmas Day and up against Paul O'Grady's For the Love of Dogs on ITV (a choice that is unlikely to cause many viewers angst on the day).

It will see the Doctor and Clara trapped on an Arctic base, under attack from terrifying creatures (which look a lot like the monster from Alien) and calling on Santa Claus himself for help.

Get a taster of the action below...

Typical, I'll still be over at my brother and sister-in-law's place with mum. Just as well, I can record it for later viewing.

Any word on a Christmas edition of Doctor Who Extra?

Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.

Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Best will in the world, at 6:15 in the early-evening they're not going to be THAT terrifying...

Radio Times - Steven Moffat and Nick Frost interviews

                  http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/201...interview.html

UK listings magazine Radio Times has a Doctor Who cover and interviews with writer Steven Moffat and Santa Claus himself, Nick Frost, inside. The current show runner told the publication about Frost's role in the 2014 Christmas special:

"Santa is written in properly, in a science-fiction way, into Doctor Who. Nick is ideal. He's what Santa should be in Doctor Who land."

Regarding another cast member of Last Christmas, Michael Troughton (who plays a character called Professor Albert), Moffat revealed:

"He doesn't play the son of Doctor Who or anything, he plays a scientist."

Moving away from the festive special, Steven discussed the return of the Master, as played by actress Michelle Gomez, saying:

"I've already asked her to come back. The Master is never dead, no matter what happens to him or her. She's entirely unzappable!"

Sticking with the finale, its writer was asked what he'd like for Christmas; he told the Radio Times:

"A full-size, operational [Cyber]Brigadier. With remote control. That would be very cool."

Actor Nick Frost also spoke to the magazine about his role in Last Christmas:

"My Santa is cross, mean and curt as well as cheery and funny. He's got a little bit of Robert de Niro in Mean Streets. And he has a history with the Doctor, it's not talked about explicitly but they have a beef with each other from way back."

                        http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2014/12...214120008.html

BBC Worldwide have given an update on the status of the last classic story expected to be released on DVD, The Underwater Menace:
We hope to release ‘The Underwater Menace’ in 2015. We delayed the release to ensure that our publishing schedule is phased appropriately across the year and the episodes will be animated.

The highly anticipated DVD will include the only known existing episode that has yet to be made officially available to own, episode two (rediscovered in 2011).

Capaldi’s Doctor Will Evolve in Series 9

                                http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/capaldi...es-9-69487.htm

Peter Capaldi has said that fans can expect to see his Doctor evolve in Series 9.

Asked if his more distant portrayal of the Time Lord has stopped “evolving”, he replied: “I think it would be wrong to say he’s ‘arrived’ now. And that’s certainly not how I feel. That would be lazy, and a bit foolish!

“I think you have to keep moving him on because in a way if he’s regenerated he’s still learning about himself, such as how he responds to the universe and the world, so I think he probably will be different again when he comes back for the next series.

He adds: “It’s inevitable I suppose when you play Doctor Who, that your first season has to be a direct contrast with the previous Doctors. And that’s worked well with my age and curmudgeonliness against Matt’s youth.”

Elaborating further on how thinks might change: “I’m just finding out who this character is and also there are more mysteries about him, so it’s good to hint at those. There are other things in my Doctor that we’re still to display.”
