3 - He then passed the weapon to Ianto with the words "Weapon clear".
4 - Ianto then examines the pistol for himself, pulling back the slide to confirm for himself that it is unloaded, "Weapon clear".
5 - Ianto then engages the weapon's safety catch.

The moral of the story is - always treat an unfamiliar weapon as though it's fully loaded with live ammunition.

And before anyone ask how I know all this - well, I've a friend who's an ex-Royal Marine who's done a lot of close protection work.

But then Torchwood have never been ones for regulations have they?

I stand corrected. Thought I'd miss out a couple of steps...

Personally, with the exception of Jack, I wouldn't trust them with a water pistol...

Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.

Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Already to be spat out at a moment's notice

(I'm assuming a 'Binky' is what we in the UK call a dummy)

                    I believe so, yes.

Wasn't it Noel Coward who said that the UK and the US were "Two countries separated by a common language"?

In the States a binky is (if I'm following the discussion coreectly) a childs blanket, that's dragged through the house by them up untill it falls apart/their ready to give it up.

Also in some social circles, it could refer to a persons name, a man usually. But I've never met someone someone named Binky. Guess I'm not in that circle.

Sounds like a Noel Coward put down
