Well technically this is on topic ( a little bit old but still was fun) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8667853/...he-Sourceblood

Also what is everyone's opinion of leaving anonymous reviews? I found most people who leave unsigned reviews do so to flame and or troll. I have a fair few times purely out of laziness where I just didn't feel like signing in

I don't think I've ever gotten trolled, anonymous or otherwise. I don't mind anonymous reviews, personally. I prefer the signed ones, so I can respond, but to each their own.

No I don't mind the anonymous reviews for the most part. I mean a review is a review. But I have been trolled a few times and only once or twice did they sign in. (And I don't mean they just left bad reviews I mean they trolled)

The weird thing is when someone asks for a sequel/continuation without signing in- Unless that's you Koala and you didn't mean it when you said you hated my writing

suck it up Koala and accept me the way I am. i couldn't stop writing even if I wanted to.

Whats everyone's thought on sequels anyway? I very rarely like them, I mean the story is over and that's it. Unless you stopped at one conclusion and kept writing then yes that does make sense. But if you plan a full stop and someone asks for more, and you liked the story enough to revisit it anyway....

I don't think it is important if a story is a sequel or not, for the quality of the story. Sequels just have some additional problems that need to be solved for them to work.

I'm a theme reader, watcher and writer. The series I like most are the ones that have a strong theme and viewpoint to go with it. The story (plot, choices in storytelling and all that) communicate the theme and viewpoint, and the story end when everything that needs to be said is said.

How to write a sequel, with the same characters, from where I left, when I have already communicated what I wanted to communicate of the theme, from a certain viewpoint? I can't just keep hitting the keyboard and think the sequel will have the same quality as the first one did.

So, I need a new theme and/or a new viewpoint. It needs to be different enough to be interesting (I don't want to write the same thing over and over again). It needs to fit for the characters and situation I left (or that I can reach by skipping time). If I was a commercial writer, I'd have to think what it was the readers liked in the first story, so that I could keep those elements in the new one too. Because I'm not, I don't care about that, but I like to stay in the approximate area. I mean, I don't want to go from stories meant for children to hard porn, if I don't have a very good theme and viewpoint that simply clicks with everything.

Sons of Anarchy and Californication are my two favorite examples of this. SoA had a strong theme and viewpoint in the first season (freedom) but after it, the series got lost and went to a drama soap side. It is still enjoyable, imho, but not nearly as much as it was during the first season. Californication was able to make small shifts in its sexual themes and viewpoints, and for me, every seasons has been as strong as the first one that got me hooked.

The series that do more adventure that themes have a slightly different sets of problems. Like Enid Blyton's books, where the same kids repeatedly end in adventures that are less than once in a life time kind, and all the books are basically the same. They are children's book, yes, and shouldn't be treated like adults/young adults books, but the same problem is there in many fantasy series sequels too. David Eddings' books for example.

Imho one big problems in these books is that the characters change and grow during the story. After the first one, there is no going back to the wide-eyed naive adventurer the character maybe started as. How to continue character growth in the sequel, when the character is already harden and bittern warrior, or maybe married and a father of five children? There are ways, but how they go with the second adventure? How to keep the elements that readers liked?

I have noticed that in a lot of stories you have the character grow and learn a lesson in the story and then in the sequel the character seems 'ungrown' and has to relearn the exact same lesson. It is something I try to avoid, mainly because it annoys me. It also annoys me when someone pulls a character and rewrites them to suit their own needs. (For instance Henry not being techknowlegable when its been stated several times that he has a natural knack for computers)

Yup, things like these. Personally I think a main issue with this exact thing too it the lack of new theme and viewpoint for the story. With the first one, there was on idea that naturally grew to the story. With the second one, there is already a story and too often will to write more of it, but not the new idea.

Out of curiosity, are you writing a sequel? In ff.net there are a few interesting sequels going on at the moment

Not currently. I have written a few and I have a request for one that I haven't really gotten around to tackle. Right now the bunnies are riling around a song from Rent and how it would work well for Nikola (I hate song fics but my bunnies love them.)

I'm also trying to wrap up a pressie for Koala as well. But I keep getting stuck.

I once tried looking for Sanctuary fanfic....

... This is why I never look at fanfic. (I think Adventure Time did a great portrayal of fanfic )

                            Unless it's written by a GWer !

Which ones are the best and don't involve mind scarring?

That aren't excessively long and drawn out?

I've written a few via request. none turned out as well as I would have liked but then I have had people tell me I'm too hard on myself

I would certainly recommend chartreuseian, She is a wonderful writer. Her multichapter fics are gripping so they seem to fly by and her one shots are sweet. One thing though ALWAYS check the rating.
