MG. If memory serves, you have some kind of disability, right?
If you, or your parents ever received any kind of financial aid from the government, you were taking advantage of socialism. There is a reason why it's called -social- services.
socialism...as the dictionary states...is a form of government wherein the means of production are "owned" solely by government fiat, and by extension also "owns" We the People...basically a society where we live, work, and die solely by the direction of "the great and glorious state"
having taxpayer-funded social services available to those who TRULY need them is not the same as government having ownership of all means of production (though IMO government welfare has become more of a hammock for the lazy than a safety net for those truly in need)
private donor-funded non-profit services (like church-run food banks and St. Gianna Molla pregnancy outreach center in my neck of the woods that helps low-income single mothers with baby supplies) are also social services
I've never said that having any sort of social services at all was in anyway collectivist (to use a generic term that encompasses socialism, fascism, etc.) although IMO I think the private donor-funded non-profits oftentimes do a better job than government bureaucrats at provided these social services
However I do recognize that any collectivist dictator worth their salt generally follows a very long and very ponderous process to very gradually turn a country into a collectivist dictatorship, naturally recognizing that if the change to collectivism was made overnight that there would be a rebellion by morning
The process is akin to boiling a frog....turn the heat up to boiling right away and the frog is naturally gonna jump out of the pot....however if the heat is turned up very gradually...the frog will happily languish in the pot until he finally realizes that it's too hot and by that time it's too late....he's already been cooked beyond the point of no return

But the actual situation? Were you privvy to the decisions? The consequences of those choices?
And for both you and GF.. What's your acronyms for HIllary??? Or is trump/pence only fair game to get their names dicked over like that?

I think it's better that you must be registered with the party to vote in the primary. Otherwise, you could easily end up with members of party A voting in the primary for party B in order to torpedo party B's chances if winning the general election. Party A members could organize and vote in party B's primary for someone who doesn't stand a chance in the general election, ensuring that party A wins in Nov.

Originally posted by Gatefan1976 View PostYes, yes it is.
Roughly half the population of the US votes, which means about 100 million eligible voters could not be arsed to have a say in the US government at the federal level, and it is even lower for primaries, and utterly atrocious at the state level. You end up getting the government those most invested in maintaining the Status Quo want, not the representative democracy America likes to claim it is.
The vote is the free exercise of choice, and to give it up is baffling to me. I find people who don't vote more insulting to their nation than any not standing for the anthem, or burning the flag, at least those are conscious -choices-.
Personally, showing up to vote should be a requirement. You don't have to vote, but you have to show up.
