    Stargate Universe Season One

Concerning the remaining episodes, consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi wrote in his weblog, “The guest casting on these final three should be a lot of fun.” These final three are “Subversion”, written by Paul Mullie, and “Incursion” parts 1 and 2, written by Mallozzi himself. Could one of those guests be Michael Shanks? MSOL reports from the Chicago Official Stargate Convention, “Michael *may* be filming another episode of Stargate Universe on his return from filming Arctic Blast in Tasmania.” Filming for that movie is starting August 24 and ending sometime in September.

EXCERPT: Stargate Universe is about to go boldly where no Stargate series has gone before it – into inner space and the emotional terrain of the human mind.

After 15 years of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, the new series – now filming at Vancouver’s Bridge Studios – will follow a group of contemporary, everyday civilians stranded aboard a mysterious, ancient spacecraft called the Destiny that is locked on an unknown path to points unknown and unable to return home to Earth. The stragglers must solve the mystery of an on-board stargate, as well as find food, water and a life-sustaining air supply, if they are to survive.

THE TOURNAMENT movie trailer with Robert Carlyle

Check out the trailer for THE TOURNAMENT starring Robert Carlyle, Ving Rhames, Kelly Hu, Ian Somerhalder, Scott Adkins, Sebastien Foucan, and directed by Scott Mann.

I just love the concept of the best assassins in the world battling it out for $10 million. Plus I always enjoy watching Robert Carlyle in anything he does. Unfortunately, there is not release date for the movie yet.

Sample a preview of 'Stargate Universe'

Fans still mourning the demise of Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 will receive (mild) salvation this autumn when a new spinoff arrives on the scene.

Stargate Universe is set in the present day and follows an exploration team on the spaceship Destiny who are suddenly transported to a distant corner of the universe, unable to return to Earth. The cast is headed up by Robert 'Trainspotting' Carlyle.

Carlyle: 'US TV has raised the bar'

Robert Carlyle has claimed that the quality of US television is now able to match that of high-budget movies.

The Scottish actor confirmed that the transformation of TV in the States inspired his recent decision to put cinema on hold.

Last year, Carlyle starred in a one-off 24 telemovie Redemption before signing up to lead the cast of Stargate Universe.

                From Craig Engler's (Syfy) Twitter:

Got our first Awareness Report for Stargate Universe. 6 weeks out, awareness is very good so far. Knock wood...
about 2 hours ago from web

"Few respondents who had heard of Stargate Universe plan on not tuning in."

"Few respondents who had heard of Stargate Universe plan on not tuning in." = most who've heard of it WILL watch it, not the other way
about 1 hour ago from web

                Q) @DavidBlue "awareness report"? A) Research puts them together to see how many people are aware of new shows, intend to watch, etc.

SGU Writing Team - Stargate Magazine #30
                    Stargate Magazine, Aug 27th, 2009

The following excerpt, featured in the latest issue of The Official Stargate SG-1/Atlantis Magazine, begins with co-creator/executive producer Brad Wright explaining why the series opener Air took some creative engineering to pull off...

"Originally, the story was supposed to be a two-parter. That was the first production challenge," says Brad Wright. "Robert and I were writing this script together, which came out of a story we'd spun. He had put the story beats down and, as I tried to go through those beats, I realized that these scenes weren't little, they were huge. I struggled for a while to write certain parts of the script, and finally I emailed Rob and said, 'We have too much story. We're never going to get to the planet before the end of part two, especially if we write these scenes the way they should be written.' "Rob wrote two words back to me, which were 'three hours' – and that's what ended up happening. Obviously, we had to get on the phone and discuss it with Syfy and MGM, and as a result Air has become a two-hour premiere with a cliffhanger, and its resolution is Air Pt. 3.

Meet Stargate Universe's resident geek, David Blue

EXCERPT: The show differs from previous installments in the popular franchise. "Unlike past shows, where you have rubber-faced, British-speaking aliens, it's more about the ensemble cast," Blue said. "The people you become invested in. Who you get to relate to and find catharsis in, ... it's great, because you can see all these new layers and levels to situations you normally get the chance [to see] in shows these days."

SGU has been described as darker in tone then its predecessors, but Blue has a different way of looking at it. "I tend to say it's not as much darker as it is more real," he said. "And maybe that's a pessimistic way of looking at the world, but I think that ... reality itself is darker. It's not just shiny, 'Hey, we survived again! Woo-hoo!' There are more levels, where you look at the person sitting next to you, and you start thinking to yourself, 'Do I trust them today?' And you look at someone sitting next to you and start to see a spark and go, 'How do I really feel about that person?' And when your life is being threatened, you tend to actually, in a weird way, find humor to make yourself cope. You can say 'darker,' because in some ways it is, ... but when you really get down to it, it's like everyday life. That's kind of what I like about it."

                        Lou Diamond Phillips

Lou Diamond Phillips is taking a breather, “waiting for my marching orders from ‘Stargate Universe’” — and getting in some much-wanted family time.

It’s been a couple of years of back-to-back projects for the actor-director — projects that couldn’t have been much more different from each other, from King Arthur in his year-and-a-half “Camelot” stage stint, to co-starring in the big-screen “Che,” to directing and co-starring in the period prairie telepic “Love Takes Wing,” to making an excellent showing in the 2009 World Series of Poker, to winning “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!” in June — to his Oct. 2-debuting SyFy show.

“I not only like to work, I need to work. I have four daughters,” he points out.

Why Lou Diamond Phillips can't wait for Stargate Universe

Best known for his roles in La Bamba and the Young Gun movies, actor Lou Diamond Phillips will next be seen as Colonel Telford in Syfy's highly anticipated new series Stargate Universe.

"The landscape of the television and film industry is different these days," notes Phillips. "It used to be if you were a film actor, you were exclusively a film actor, and you didn't do television. I think things have evolved to a no-holds-barred arena where everybody goes between television and film as well as making guest appearances or doing reality shows. It's interesting. You have Oscar winners carrying shows or doing miniseries."
