    We know this from where?
Maybe what he meaned is that NIG seems to need fuel to work. So has long has you have enough, there is no problem in using it.

On the other hand, ZPM's are more like a one-use only. And even if they could be replenished, I think that it is not the easiest thing in the world.

So NIG are virtually limitless while ZPMs have finite (yet incredibly huge) amount of energy.

a ZPM is a glorified battery: a NIG is a reactor with a massive output. such a shame we didnt learn more of em. NIG's can easily power earth. as opposed to ZPMs, which though powerfull are quite useless by ways of production, NIG's can be run easily as long as you have neutronium. and i believe that because its so dense, it could deliver massive amounts of power running on barely any fuel

The protons and electrons could fuse with other neutrons resulting in ions. That's how the NIG could work. It's sort of like a nuclear reactor.
Neutronium is just too rare to use it as fuel.

Actually we've seen it's quite abundant in the Stargate Universe. Besides, there are thousands of Neutron Stars from which you could extract the neutronium....theoretically speaking. We are far from using this technology in the real world.

Neutronium, the SG one, is rare, and considering the amounts of energy the Asgards would regularily use.
The neutronium of SG is nothing of the real neutronium in stars, maintained as such by the immense pressures of the stars themselves. The neutronium in SG is some material that's solid, in veins, and can be found on Earth-like planets.
            It's apples and oranges.

The only way I could conceive maintaining neutronium tightly packed would be to stick it into time dilation fields, but we know little about the effects of movement, especially in hyperspace, on time dilation as generated by Asgard devices.

that earth like planet was actually an neutron star, supercooled and terraformed

                            Whaaaaaaaatttttt!!!!!!

Earth Like planet was an old terraformed Neutron star???- Neutronium is the theoretical substance that a the core of a neutron star is made up of. Problem with that idea is that the gravity would be too much. I reckon that a (Relatively) nearby Neutron star blew up early in that planets evolution an Neutronium deposits were left over

only supercooled neutron stars have sufficient neutronium. so it might have been a terraformed one

There would still be a gravity problem-also the replicator "Godzilla" would not have sunk if the whole planet was made of Neutronium. McKay said that Asuras was "abundant with Neutronium"- this suggests a lot of Neutronium but not a whole planets worth!
