Maybe it was just more practical.
The success or failure of your deeds, does not add up to the sum of your life. Your spirit cannot be weighed! Judge yourself by the intentions of your actions, and by the strength with which you faced the challenges that have stood in your way. The Universe is so vast, and we are so small, there is only truly one thing we can control; whether we are good or evil... -Oma Desala

Because the circle is a naturally occuring shape.

It's a circle for the same reason you don' see square flushs. It gets the water everywhere.

maybe ,acoording to physics theory,if you want to create

perfect and beautiful and steady wormhole, the only choose of the shape of the stargate is a circle.

if the shape is square or cube ,it may need more energy to power it ,and the
lifespan of a steady wormhole can't last 38m.

and the most important reason is that the shape was a circel ,now it is a circle ,and it will be a circle, because it was not your design. if you want you can design a stargate with a shape of square.

if you still ask why it is a circle, you 'd better teach the writer of stargate a
            lesson badly.

why did they have to rotate the ring? I've never understood why they needed to rotate it.

It's like old and new telephones. Old style, you had to rotate the dial, but newer phones, you just press the buttons. The electronics handle the rest. Why not have the DHD do that?

According to mathematics, which Im sorry to say im probably better than all of you, circles have more durability. circles dont have edges or accroding to math circles have infinite amount of edges making it very powerful and can stabilize anything very powerful more than a square since squares have 4 edges. with only 4 edges things can be crushed very easily from the outside and the inside.

For example, all od you have bounced a circular ball before correct? the circular ball when u bounce it and bounces back up to u, the ball is still a circle correct? If u bounch a cubed ball (even if that existed!) the edge would get crumbled from both inner and outer pressure. This is the exact same thing as the stargate. The stargate needs a powerful stabilizer and that is a circular object which has infinite edges.

                  P.S. MY first POST!!!!

because it looks cooller having the stargate do it and the ancient seem to like cool looking toys.

So the stargate could be dialed manually if need be. Ever notice that the only time you ever see the stargates inner ring spin, is at the SGC? That is because with a DHD the stargate doesn't need to spin the inner track to dial an address. That is why it has an inner rotating ring.

It is a circle because of one simple fact. It is the best shape for any other shape to fit througH. Box, cube, prisums, pyrimids, all the edges fit throuhg somethign that has no endges just a curve line.

They'd still say "Dial the Gate" if it were a cube or other shape. If it were a tetrahedron, it'd still be a Stargate.

When was the last time you heard them say "dial the circle" or "dial the ring?"
