Theater review: `Much Ado About Nothing' at A Noise Within

Men and women may never resolve their differences, but nonetheless "the world
must be peopled," as converted bachelor Benedick concedes in "Much Ado About
Nothing." To that end, A Noise Within, Glendale's classical repertory theater,
offers a revival of William Shakespeare's battle-of-the-sexes romp that's smart,
seductive, and above all, funny

The lion's share of laughs are supplied by JD Cullum's idiosyncratic turn as
Benedick, who, through mischievous intervention by his friends, gets tricked
into romance with his adversary, the sharp-tongued Beatrice (Torri Higginson). A
tactician so completely ruled by his head that he needs others to tell him where
his heart lies, Cullum entertains through every step of his Benedick's emotional
about-face, whether mocking with subtle irony the foibles of others or falling
victim to his own with the broadest slapstick.

BIOGRAPHIES
Kate Hewlett (Playwright) is a Canadian actor and writer currently
Kate has written a number of plays, including: Humans Anonymous
and Use My Babies Well (2009 TAC grant recipient). After its premiere
2006, Humans Anonymous enjoyed a three-week run in New York
well as staged readings in Los Angeles (Off Chance Productions)
Lab, NY). Kate co-wrote the stage plays On the Body, Don't Wake
Jump (Phase One). She is the Artistic Director of 6AM Tango Productions,
UnSpun Theatre and was a member of the 2007 Tarragon Theatre
Kate was commissioned by Soulpepper Theatre Company in association
write two short plays: Malus Domestica (in "The Sound Plays") and
Kate recently played the title role in a CBC pilot called Fancy, written
Hopkins. Other film and TV credits include: Jeannie Miller on Stargate
The Day I Thought I Died, The Last New Year, A Dog's Breakfast,
Psych and Dark Water. Kate is a graduate of the acting program
Canada and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University.

Smallville fans have a lot to be happy about these days. The CW has officially renewed the show for its tenth season after strong performances on Friday nights and a creative resurgence due in no small part to the airing of “Absolute Justice,” the two part Justice Society episode by Geoff Johns. Here’s one more reason to jump on your couch and get excited. The JSA will return to Smallville before the season 9 finale.

This isn’t the only hint that the JSA would bbe back soon. In November, Michael Shanks (Hawkman) hinted to fans he might be returning in future episodes to mentor Clark Kent.

“Clark and his friends are figuring out what their destinies will be, so there is a ripe opportunity for the Justice Society who had been there done that to offer some tough love teaching,” said Shanks.“The way things land at the end of it all, there’s an open door for Carter Hall to be revisited and possibly be part of further mentoring Clark down the road.”

SG1/SGA/Sanctuary - Human Target's 'Baptiste':

On Wednesday nights episode of FOX's Human Target, 'Baptiste,' not only was SG1's Eric Breker (Col. Reynolds) a guest star, but also Brent Stait (Maj. Ferretti), Samantha Ferris (Dr. Raully) and Herbert Duncanson (stand in for SG1's Chris Judge, also appeared as Grell, and in Allegiance).

In next week's Human Target episode, 'Corner Man,' airing at 8pm on FOX, from the promo I observed Peter Wingfield (SG1's Tanith, Sanctuary's Dr. Watson) but I think also Grace Park (SG1's Proving Ground and BSG's Boomer).

Beau Bridges (Hollywood Reporter)

Beau Bridges is set to co-star opposite Dermot Mulroney on NBC's "Rockford Files" reboot.

Bridges will play his father and closest friend, Rocky, a truck driver for thirty years who always helps his son in a tough situation, though he tends to offer a commentary that Jim doesn't always appreciate. Noah Beery, Jr. played the role on the original series.

Based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings, the film stars George Clooney as an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-establish his relationship with his daughters after his wife suffers a boating accident off Waikiki.
