    Robert Davi (Kolya, SGA)

    http://blogs.mcall.com/penn_ave/2008...d-order-r.html

    Oct 28 2008

Former Republican Presidential hopeful, U.S. Senator and Law and Order actor Fred Thompson and a host of other GOP headliners like Attorney General Tom Corbett will sweep through central Pennsylvania this week on their own bus tour.

The Republicans will start their tour with a luncheon in Lancaster tomorrow, followed by stops in York, Exeter and King of Prussia.

The highlight could be a "Guns and Religion" rally, scheduled for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at campaign headquarters in York. That rally will feature Thompson and Republican National Committee Deputy Director Frank Donatelli and tough guy character actor Robert Davi, who played a villian in 1989's 007 License to Kill, a federal agent on the TV show Profiler, and more recently Commander Acastus Kolya in the Stargate Atlantis TV series.

He stands on ‘Guard’ for you

Canada’s anti-‘Baywatch’ is still going strong

Forget the bouncing assets of ‘90s lifeguard/eye candy show Baywatch. The Guard, which returns for its second season tomorrow, is as serious and deep as the waters its Vancouver Coast Guard members navigate.

A Canadian drama set in Port Hallet, B.C., the show follows four imperfect Search and Rescue specialists. Steve Bacic (Andromeda), who plays Captain Miro Da Silva, took some time to talk about what’s ahead for Season 2.

TVGuide.ca; Congrats on being picked up for a new season!
Steve Bacic: Thanks! I had a choice between this show and another one. But once we started rolling and saw the quality of the writing, and the crew … I’ve watched a lot of television and I think we compete on a really tight budget.

Television: Steve Bacic's odyssey puts him back on the water in The Guard

          Randy Shore, Vancouver Sun

          Published: Tuesday, October 28, 2008

VANCOUVER - It's just a few miles from 21 Jump Street to Port Hallet, the fictional B.C. town at the centre of the action in the Canadian TV drama The Guard.

But it took Steve Bacic 17 years to get from his guest star role on the Vancouver set of the teen cop drama to Port Hallet, er, Squamish.

Most people make the drive in an hour, but Bacic took a lengthy detour into science fiction. He took roles big and small on The Outer Limits, Stargate SG-1, Smallville, The X-Files, Flash Gordon, Battlestar Galactica and Andromeda along the way.

          **snippage**

A string of guest directors, including 21 Jump Street alumnus Peter DeLuise, give the show a bit of a different look in the coming season. DeLuise also worked as a director with Bacic on Andromeda and Stargate.

Season one was a critical success, garnering four Leo Award nominations, including one for Bacic. Julie Patzwald won for best supporting performance.

Season two promises even better on-screen chemistry, Bacic says, as the actors grow their characters and get comfortable in their skins.

"I like to work a scene and see what's going on," he said. Preferably in a place where the script is more guideline than gospel.

South Park 10.29.08: Pandemic 2 - The Startling

Posted by DC Perry on 10.29.2008

This week's South Park was very startling. I'm so startled right now. Are you startled? Wave to the camera, Shelly.

Time for a break from campaign commercials and postponed World Series rain-outs for some South Park. But first, a long-ass Fallout 3 commercial. I’m getting pretty tired of these every week. Oh well. On to Pandemic, part 2 – the Startling.

Craig is kind enough to recap last week’s episode for us. He is not happy. Who would be? He lost his birthday money and got stranded in the Andes. Evil Robert Picardo locked up the Pan Flute Bands and sent the boys on a wild goose chase, since without the Peruvian Pan Flute Bands, the only one who can stop the rampaging giant guinea pigs who are destroying every city on the planet is . . .Craig. Seriously. Just roll with it.

              **snippage**

Back in Peru, the boys and their soon-to-be-eaten helicopter pilots stumble upon a Land of the Lost style valley of giant crap ... This, naturally, leads Craig directly to Mach Picchu, where Evil Robert Picardo has come to gloat over his victory and to piss on the Mayan prophecy of Craig. He’s released the guinea critters on the world and killed the Pan Flute Bands, and he won’t let Craig stand in his way. Evil Robert Picardo cannot be stopped; he is, in fact, the world’s most horrifying monster – a guinea pirate! Craig, again, could give a ****. He’s walking again, which makes him stumble onto the magical stone that makes lightning shoot out of his eyes and stop the Evil Robert Picardo Guinea Pirate. The end. Or is it? Cue the giant guinea pirate prison break. Dun dun DUUUUN!

THEATER REVIEW: Roles offer many sides

                By TOM TITUS

Updated: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 10:07 PM PDT

“The Heiress” is no spring chicken. She was born in Henry James’ 1880 novel “Washington Square” and was popularized more than 60 years ago on the big screen with Olivia de Havilland, earning an Oscar in the title role.

So why is South Coast Repertory’s production of “The Heiress” so vital and involving? Beyond its melodramatic — and, by now, overly familiar — story, there are some super-charged, gripping performances, particularly in the case of the title character.

                **snippage**

Equally powerful is Tony Amendola’s achingly authoritarian interpretation of her father, well aware of his daughter’s shortcomings and determined to prevent any fortune hunter from cashing in on them. Amendola also displays several facets of his character with one intentional exception — a loving father.

                WHAT: “The Heiress”

When you're the queen of a now primitive but once technologically advanced community traveling across galaxies in a spaceship full of human explorers, dressing for the occasion can be a challenge. There's not exactly a Gap in outer space (well, there might be; it's difficult to know for sure). But forTeyla Emmagan (Rachel Luttrell) of "Stargate Atlantis,"airing Fridays on Sci-Fi Channel, her ace in the hole is costume designer Valerie Halverson.

"Teyla was the leader of her people -the Athosians -but she has come onto Atlantis to help guide them," says Halverson, who designs everything for the series. "We tried to get her looking more like a team member, so we gave her a sleeker, sexier uniform, but also wanted to keep an elegance about her. After all, she is a queen. I've always tried to convey that. She's a regal hunter."

                  By Jim Halterman

One way to keep things moving along for six hours is to populate the live event with guests and newbies to this arena of work. Wilson mentioned "We will have some friends on the show that are inexperienced which should keep it interesting. They should have a lot of questions and probably get spooked out so it should be good." Personal friends aren't the only ones joining the guys during this event. Hawes offered "We've got Amanda Tapping with us, the rest of the TAPS guys [and] some of our close friends from GHI, Ghost Hunters International." Tapping, star of the new Sci Fi series "Sanctuary" and veteran of the "Stargate" series will lend some star power to the broadcast much in the same way that "Eureka" star Colin Ferguson guested earlier this week on the regular Wednesday night episode.

Saturday. Spaced-out concert. Explore the far reaches of the final frontier when the Colorado Symphony Orchestra performs "Trek: The Concert." Using music from various incarnations of the television series — "Voyager," "The Next Generation" and others — the show is a lighthearted look at what makes "Star Trek" great. Former "Trek" stars John De Lancie (from "Voyager," "Enterprise" and "Next Generation") and Robert Picardo (The Doctor on "Voyager") will offer historical tidbits and some knowing laughs while the orchestra plays greatest hits from "Star Trek"s past. Since it's so close to Halloween, everyone's encouraged to dress in their favorite Star Trek costumes. Not that Trek fans need an excuse to appear in uniform. 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Boettcher Concert Hall, Speer Boulevard and Champa Street. Tickets are $15 each, and are available online at http://ticketmaster.com/. or by calling 303-830-TIXS. Kathleen St. John

Symphony has it all: TV stars, story, lyrics

By Marc Shulgold, Rocky Mountain News

                                Published October 31, 2008 at 3 p.m.

OK, Trekkies: Anyone know the lyrics to the theme music for the original Star Trek TV series?

Lyrics? Yes, said Robert Picardo, words accompanied the famous tune composed by the late Alexander (Sandy) Courage.

"And they were appallingly bad - they're all about searching for a 'Star Woman,' " said the actor who portrayed the Emergency Medical Hologram (aka the Doctor) on Star Trek: Voyager. Picardo even will sing them as part of today's Colorado Symphony program, "Trek: The Concert."

                                But who wrote the lyrics?

"The words were penned by (series creator) Gene Roddenberry," he said. "And for a simple reason: Gene knew he'd collect royalties each time the theme was played, even though it would remain an instrumental." (Soprano Loulie Jean Norman sang that famous, wordless tune.)

In addition to crooning - something he'd done in Voyager - Picardo will serve as narrator on Saturday, teaming with actor John de Lancie (Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation). Interspersed with musical excerpts from four TV series and seven films, conducted by Erich Kunzel, the actors will tell the Star Trek story.

Some of them may quietly hiss at Picardo, who has jumped ship, so to speak, by appearing as Richard Woolsey in the non-Star Trek sci-fi series, Stargate Atlantis. "I straddle two franchises like a colossus," he quipped.
