    SCI FI PI

Don S Davis (1942-2008) Has Ascended

    Tuesday, July 1 by Captain

The man first introduced to Australian audiences as a crafty Salmon fisherman ("I don't know how he can live with himself!") in an iconic John West commercial and then went on to provide the military-man-with-a-heart in such iconic shows as Twin Peaks, The X-Files and Stargate: SG-1 died Sunday the 29th of a heart attack at his home at Gibsons, in British Columbia. He was 65.

    **snippage**

A beloved member of the Stargate SG-1 cast and crew since its inception in 1997, he left the show in 2003 due to poor health, returning for guest appearances. However, he did make an appearance in the latest film, Stargate: Continuum. Fans and friends have always responded well to his generous and warm nature.

He was an accomplished artist and woodworker - his work can be seen at Don S Davis Art.

He will be sorely missed by fans and friends alike.

'Burn Notice's' spy guy: A talk with Jeffrey Donovan

An interview with “Burn Notice” star Jeffrey Donovan, who plays ex-spy Michael Westen on the USA Network series, which returns July 10.

Donovan talks about the quirks of his witty character, Michael’s new handler, Carla (Tricia Helfer), his fellow burned spy Victor (Michael Shanks) and his manipulative mother (Sharon Gless). Donovan also talks about why he thinks “Burn Notice” will be overlooked at awards time and why he thinks his show is every bit as good as “Mad Men.”

      **snippage**

MR: So Michael will meet another burned spy, Victor, this season. Matt said he’s pretty different from Michael?

JD: Yes [laughs]. Victor is what Michael would be if Michael had rabies.

SGA - Stargate Planet: Paul McGillion Interview:

                    From Stargate Planet:

The interview is currently ONLY available in German, however, an English translation is in the process:

                    GERMAN

Using the Google Translator, here's an English excerpt:

Paul McGillion was born in Scotland, but grew up in Canada. We know him as "Dr. Carson Beckett" for Atlantis and we are grateful that his agent has made this telephone interview available and that Paul McGillion, despite a tight time schedule, has taken the time to speak with us.

SP.de: Your role in the fifth seasons of Atlantis... The premiere is July 11 '08. In how many episodes are you and what can "Beckett fans expect of their favorite Doctor?

PMG: First of all, beautiful greetings to the German fans. You are the best. Regarding Stargate Atlantis, I am scheduled for five episodes. Three of them I have already filmed. The first of these is called "The Seed" - Will Waring directed.

S-P.de: Do you like Will Waring as a director?

PMG: No. (then he laughs). Yes. Yes, of course. He makes his case well. He knows exactly how my role right across. As a result, I am working with Robert Picardo together - a pleasant cooperation. The second episode with "Beckett" is "Whispers", written by Joe Mallozzi and again leads Will Waring fantastic director. He is a great introduction and shows a lot of assets for my role. We sit in the impact on this planet. There are many Sheppard / Beckett scenes and this women's team is with us. A real horror series with a lot of fog. The third, which we have just twisted, "Outsiders". As Alan McCullough shows much sensitivity for my role. There are many interactions between McKay and Beckett. A kidnapping, a moral dilemma… more but I would not be betrayed.

Posted by Sam on Sunday, 6 Jul 2008

In April 2007 we were privileged to have “Stargate: Atlantis” star Rachel Luttrell as our special guest for the online and XM-Satellite Radio Slice of SciFi Show. We had such a good time that we asked Rachel if she would come back to Slice of SciFi sometime in the future.

Since that time Rachel has given birth to a beautiful son; while on the show, her character Teyla also gave birth.

With Season Five getting ready to return this Friday (July 11) we asked our roving reporter, Linda Craddock, to visit with Rachel while she was on the set of ‘Atlantis’ in Vancouver. What resulted was this great fun interview.

                            Rachel Luttrell (RL): Hello there!
Linda Craddock (SoSF): Hi how are you?

RL: Oh gosh, (laughter) in one word, very busy.

                            SoSF: I can imagine.
RL: Actually two words so there you go, busy, busy.

Paul was also able to tell us a little (a very, very little) about his role in the upcoming J.J. Abrams Star Trek film due out this coming May 2009.
Sit back and enjoy this exciting conversation with one of our favorite actors, Paul McGillion.
