    Spoiler:
Some five minutes later, Chikozu and Smithers exited the garrison building. Smithers seemed lost in thought while Ryn just wanted to hurry along, she knew their CO would be mad for the delay.

She decided to speak up about it. "Sorry, cap. The airman here had some friends he wanted to talk to at the garrison. He doesn't get that many opportunities for that so um ..." Ryn knew it was a little lame, but, she'd done her bit.

Beside her, Smithers just grunted an apology, and took up the regular defensive position in the squad.

"Are we moving back now ?" Ryn asked, still trying to distract Kym from their lateness.

    [Main Street]

Kym glanced around to see suspicious, narrowed eyes staring at them, "Yeah. Move out. Slow march. We'll give the others a chance to catch up if they feel like an escort."
Still keeping her hands in her pockets and away from her weapon, the captain began strolling out of town.

      [Main Street - going away]

Apparently the distraction had worked. The captain had chosen not to mention their transgressions, for which Ryn was happy. As per orders, she fell into a slow march, somewhere in the center of the five-strong squad. She took a swig from a newly-filled water flask. Just then she caught the eye of an elderly woman, who hissed something unintelligible at them.
Ryn just gave her a friendly smile and continued on her way. There were shouts, too, from the woman, though Ryn couldn't make out the words. They must have been some alien language, she decided.

It wasn't a real nice stroll, in the end, although the scenery was real pretty. They were stared at, some rather pointedly at Ryn's very-red hair, and some soft sneers too, though Ryn refused to put the cap back on and kept her posture as non-threateningly as possible (weapon pointed downward, and slung across shoulder with her gear, hands in pant pockets - not both at same time, sometimes one then the other, then both...).

The whole thing did dampen her mood.

        <<Zach Black & Rivers Cuomo (baker) ~~ Bakery>>

Zach gave Lance a bit of a frown, "Girlfriend? I think you are mistaken sir." He turned to a little hutch in the corner of the room not wanting to face Lance head on on this. It contained some unique petite china dolls that appeared to be each individually painted. He grinned at one that he gently removed from its spot. A small snicker escaped as its expression in its own way reminded him of Claire.

He returned to the counter doll in hand, "Do you have a box for this?"

Rivers' head popped up as he realized what it was the man was inquiring about. "Why yes sir." He reached out to take the doll from the man. "For your little girl? They are hand painted, no two alike." He smiled as he laid the wrapped pies on the counter and retreated to the back to acquire a box for the doll.

Zach felt the flush of his face rising as the man made his comment. With a quick glance to Lance, "Not a word, not a single word. I am serious. If you value your life, not a word." Zach's eyes moved across the pies and away from Lance.

          Bakery

Lance rose an eyebrow at Zack's another turn of denial. He wondered when the man was going to admit his feelings. The sooner he did it, the better it was going to be for all of them. But he noted something was holding Black back. What it could be he wasn't sure of it at all nor he could come up with any reasons for Black to hold back. He gave a little laugh at bakers comment to Zack. Little girl?? oh she's definitely little, but McKinnon wouldn't call Davis a girl. A woman yea, but a girl, he kept his face straight as he tried not to laugh.

Seeing the look Zack was giving him, Lance smartly took a step back. But the flush wasn't missed by him. He grinned at the other man innocently. The baker really had hit the soft spot. Even if it was indirect hit, biting back a one liner that was on the tip of his tongue, "Who said I was going to make a wise guy remark?"

Truth to be told he would have made one given the chance. Paying for his pie, he lopped his fingers around the bag then turned, gave Zack a wink then disappeared out of the shop.

            Sorrel's Shop --> Bakery --> Jack's Place

Kim gave a Sorrel a nod before leaving with Sarah who had finished her shopping. Walking down towards Jack's in quiet, Kim noted Lance coming out the bakery with a smirk on his cute face. Motioning Sarah to come long, who declined and headed to grab her stuff from Jack's. Ashwood nodded at her and headed towards Lance, "Well, hello."

Supporting his trademark smile, Lance looked at her, "In good mood, are we?" he glided his arm across her waist, pulling her closer, getting a sound of agreement, Lance unspokenly pulled her into a kiss.

Kim pulled back after a minute, "mmmmmm, but first you must tell me the reason of the smirk. Did Zack make a fool of himself again?" she asked. Something had to happen.

Laughing Lance relayed the whole story in her ear. Kim giggled hysterically, leaning her head on his shoulder, she entire body shook as she continued to laugh. "OMG that's..." she cut of as another round of giggles hit her. It served Zack right to avoid the whole situation. "I shouldn't laugh, but that's priceless. Just soo for Zack."

"True, but why wouldn't he tell her?" Lance wanted some insight with what was happening between the two members of the flagship team. He was after all new to the scene at the moment.

Kim stopped laughing long enough to ponder on his question, tugging him back into the path, "I think it's more to do with Sharp not finding out then his own fear of rejection. But yet again bit of both. We can't blame him for that, simply we have been there, done that." she looked at him yet they both knew what she was saying, seeing Lance about to speak, she held up her hand, "Hear me out will you. I think before it was more to do with having Sharp as a CO. I mean the idea of you CO knowing about you who are in love is a little odd. So that's one reason second which has come to light now, would really have him running south. I mean knowing that your CO is your love interest's father's best friend. I would love to see Zack's reaction to that. But I feel sorry for him too."

Lance nodded, "I agree we can't blame for how he feels about Chris finding out. But I do suspect that he might already know. Like I said the other day, Chris might seem bullheaded and look clueless on the surface but he gets alot more then he shows. If I take that into account, like you guys he just might be waiting for Zack to admit it. He maybe Major Davis's friend, but he is also, Claire's and Zack's too. I admit Claire might have a slight advantage from this whole Paul's friendship with Chris, but no less than you or Whitely or anyone else on the base."

Kim understood where he was coming from, "Your right, but just don't underestimate the whole situation. Sharp can be overprotective of her when it is required."

Lance looked at Kim, wondering if she was pulling his leg, seeing the seriousness on her pretty face, he had no doubt she knew what she was talking about, "I take it has happened before," he commented as they climbed the stairs of Jack's Place and entered. he got expression off her facing saying 'duh'. Laughing he ordered two cold drinks then it was of to pack and back to the base.

              [ Sarah Whitely - Foreston ]

Sarah had only bought a scarf from the shop that she and Kim had browsed. It was a nice one too, more of a fashion accessory than protecting you from the cold. Yet, it still felt good to buy something to wear instead of army issued clothing. Since the loss of Earth, nice flattering clothing was hard to come by.

Deciding to meet with Kim later, Sarah walked back to Jack's alone to pack her stuff. She had brought minimal at best and it did not take long to put away into the rucksack she had brought with her. The scarf added little extra weight and so the walk back wouldn't be so hard on the shoulders. After zipping up the bag she took a last glance out of the window, the view was beautiful and she wanted to savour it. Before a cold wind blew across and, frowning, the door was closed and she had returned to the bar downstairs where Kim and Lance were sharing one last drink.

Zach watched the retreating back of his so called friend, "Coward, chicken, yellow-bellied." His voice trailed off as he laughed at Lance already out the door. "Blew that, I was going to pay for everything."

"So Mr. Rivers, what do I owe you?" He conversed, pretending nothing had happened.

"It is Rivers or Mr Cuomo, whatever your preference. Two pies and the doll baby for your little girl. That will be twenty please." He smiled not knowing that he was digging in deep.

Zach had that deep gut feeling as he heard the words once more. Tossing the script up on the counter he took hold of his loot and made his way to Jack's. What a weekend.

He observed the crew from the base appearing to slowly move out of town. Things were eerily quiet now. Entering Jack's he noticed his pack where he had left it. Lance and Kim swimming in each other's eyes. Sarah was just making her way down the stairs. He quickly tucked the doll into a side pouch before any questions made their way. Black awaited the approaching Sarah with a smile. "Ready to hit the road?"

They polished of their drinks just as Zack arrived. Kim noted the man hid something in his pocket, it might the doll the Lance told her about, for his 'little girl". Smiling over the fact that the AU mission might have accomplished what SG-1 couldn't. Getting their two members together. She wouldn't surprised if they got together soon than she expected.

"Go easy on the guy will you," Lance nudged her shoulder softly, "he's still in denial. Give him time."

Kim snorted, "It's been almost a year. How much more time will he need?" It took her till then to realize that one year anniversary of Earth's fate was fast approaching. Making her feel home sick for a second.

He was looking at Zack talking to Sarah, "I give him few more days, before he tells her. He's nearly there." Taking Kim's hand he lead the way to their shared room. It didn't fail his attention that Kim never noticed the package he had with him, smiling he tucked it into this duffel. Then looked over to Kim zipping hers.

"Come lets get back," she said as he held out her hand, which she noted he took as they both went back down the stairs, making their way to Sarah and Zack, "You kids ready? And if we are lucky we might catch up with Tyler and co."

She winked at Zach and ignored the bulging packet it in his pocket, "Ready, as much as I really enjoyed this... starting to miss work again." She smiled at him guiltily before heading in direction of the door.

Standing outside of Jack's she waited for Kim, Lance and Black to follow her out.

                      ['Auinala Mahina snack shack]

Kylie entered the smallish downtown Foreston restuarant with a smile on her face, eager to discover the delicious treats that awaited her inside. Her first impression of the place was that of a sandwich shop or a snack shack/ice cream parlor, the kind that one might find in a hide-a-way at the mall. The place was decorated like a Hawaiian village, complete with paintings of palm trees lining the walls, and booths decorated in tropical flower patterns. If the linguist didn't know any better, she would think that she had just stepped into a cafe in the heart of honolulu. "This place is amazing." Kylie said aloud to herself as she admired the adornments.

"Aloha, welcome. I am Kahana." A rather tall, muscular gentleman behind the serving counter greeted the couple as they walked through the cafe.

"Aloha." Kylie said, automatically returning the traditional greeting. She was already trying to remember the meaning of Kahana in the original Hawaiian dialect. She had studied in Hawaii for almost three monthes one summer with one of her professors doing research on `aumakua* of several of the local families. Unfortunately, Hawaiian was a difficult language to master and she only remembered bits and pieces of what she had learned in college.

"What can I get for you? Perhaps you would like to know of our specials." Kahana offered, watching the visitors with interest.

"Alright. What do you suggest for a lite lunch?" The anthropologist said, allowing the man to do what he obviously did best, sell food.

"A lite lunch, hey. You need to try the macaroni salad and Choy's fruit bread. And for dessert, I have just prepared a freash bowl of haupia." Kahana explained to his newest customers.

"Sounds good to me." Kylie agreed with a smile and waited for Devin to place his order.

Standing in the doorway Black held the door for Kim and Lance to exit. He grinned at Sarah waiting just beyond, "You heard the boss lady, let's go home."

For the first time since his arrival at this planet the words actually felt right, well almost. Who would have ever thought a military base would be a place that he called home. But, Claire was there, his friends were there, Claire was there, his work was there and then Claire was there and the great food. He pulled a face for his own benefit. He fought a little nagging voice that whispered and Brihanna is there. He blushed and looked innocently at the faces of the group surrounding him. Feeling a pang of guilt as if they may be able to read his mind.

He pulled his pack on and strapped it properly in place. Reached over his shoulder to check that the small precious package in its pocket was not being crushed. With that he forged forward.

Kim slapped Zack up side his head, then gave a glare which showed no anger at all, "Watch it buddy," she warned as she picked up Davis's CD player and held it out to Zack, "you can hold it while your at it. all the way to the base."

Lance tried not to laugh, but a small smile played on his lips at how Kim kept all her team members in line. He wondered if Chris had taken his share of her anger. Looking at Zack, he pulled an innocent routine, "Take your chances," he told the man, as he took Kim down the stairs.

All four of them walked out the town in Silence spread between them.

Black turned his head to catch Kim's usual taunt. He smirked in jest back at her. Standing at quick attention and giving a formal, yet seriously fumbled salute, "SIR, YES SIR!! errmmm ma'am." Then snickering mumbled "boss lady!"

Zach took hold of the CD player and plugged in his headphones that were at an easy reach in his pack. Cocking his head as he harped to Lance, "I think I will." As the first love song made its way through the wires he pulled an eek face at Lance. He started laughing, "I won't ask, don't tell me, it involved dancing didn't it?"

An even more wicked expression crossed his face as he mockingly grabbed Sarah into his arms and with his most romantic of voices crooned a bit too loudly albeit, "Oh Kimmy!! my heart pitter patters for you!"

Letting the not too startled Sarah back to her original position, Zach quickened his pace ahead of the group singing the words to the song at the top of his voice, "our time has come, we're not two people, now we are one."

Taking a seat and pulling it out for Kylie, Devin help her get seated then himself took an adjacent chair. "Now, the way I see it, there's a thirty percent chance that the kitchen will explode, sending a torrent of Spam our way. There's another thirty percent chance our food comes to life and eats us. Twenty-five percent chance the patrons get up and join us in a complicated dance routine and the last fifteen percent we get a normal meal."

"I myself am betting on the kitchen exploding. Now, what are you gonna put money on?" Devin pulled out a Kennedy half-dollar and set it on the table in half-jest. "Here's my bet, if you're willin' to oblige."

"Very well, then, your orders shall be ready shortly. It is still too early in the day for my famous knock out punch. But I have just now finished brewing some pineapple passion tea, and I insist that you try some. It is not too sweet." Kahana explained before scurrying away.

Kylie had to smile at the man's persistence. He certaintly knew how to influence his customers. She settled herself into the chair that Devin pulled out for her, gingerly positioning her cast so that it lay across the seat of a second chair, and propped her crutches against the edge of the table. Her actions were quick and fluid, another testament to her experience with crutches and broken bones. "I don't remember that much Hawaiian, but I think that I remember this one. Aloha Au Ia 'Oe.*" Kylie said as a way of thanking Devin for his patience.

The linguist didn't have to sit quietly for long before Devin found a creative topic of conversation while they waited for their food. She listened to the options, one at a time, trying not to think about how ridiculous some of them sounded, while enjoying the humoruos mental images that each brought to mind. Kylie was only slightly suprised to learn that Devin carried Kennedy halves with him on a regular basis. Or maybe it was only on special occasions. Either way, it seemed like just the thing that he would have. Out of pure curiosity, she reached toward the coin and rotated it to look at the date. Again, Kylie was not all that suprised to see the year 1964 printed across the bottom of the face of the coin. "Sure you willing to part with that?" She teased him lightly.

She moved quickly on to accepting his bet. "Considering that I once had a nightmare about Choy bread coming to life, I'd say that's the most likely posibility." Playing along with Devin, Kylie took out two quarters and placed them on the table next to the silver Kennedy half.

Kahana returned to the front counter just in time to see the two placing money on the counter, but wasn't close enough to hear what they were saying. "I hope that you are not betting on the possibility that the kitchen will explode or that the Choy bread will come to life." He teased, thinking that the possibility of those bets was extremely slim, and it would be good for a laugh. Still grinning, the native Hawaiian placed two glasses of tea in front of his customers, and two bottles of water as well, just in case.

Kylie raised her eyebrows at the man's comment, but otherwise kept her expression nuetral. He hadn't actually been close enough to hear them, had he? She accepted the tea with a smile. "Mahalo nui loa." She told him before taking her first sip of the liquid. The tea was indeed delicious, and she made a mental note to talk to him about supplying the mess hall staff with his recipe.
