[ Iso room 1 - Lt. Col. Danny Marshall ]

"I say we lose the deception ASAP. Lying is no way to instill confidence in the rank and file. If they know, they'll make some allowances for him," Marshall tried to keep from smiling, "talking to himself. Its not like there's anything visibly wrong. He's just a little bit ... odder than usual."
Now he couldn't hold back the grin, "With all due respect, sir."

He grinned at Larry's 'way out there' comment. "Since I got posted here, I find that nothing, I mean NOTHING, is too far out to believe."
"Calli is definitely devoted to the General. She told me a bit about it previously, and from what I heard I don't blame her. She's good people." Larry replied.

"As far as the 'way out there' bit, what if the General got snaked on the Alarius? I know, I know, it's more like a bad scene from 'Aliens' with the eggs and facehuggers that always freaked me out, but I'm serious. If it was some kind of airborne pathogen that we could have been innoculated against, then why is he still in isolation? And wouldn't it have been detected on previous sweeps when it was first checked out?"
      Larry postulated.

Holland nearly choked on his own saliva. "OK, you got me there," he coughed, "I didn't think that 'far out'."
He wiped his eyes and got serious, "I don't see how he could have run afoul of a Goa'uld on the Alarius. After the attack, we scanned that wreck with everything we had, searching for survivors. There was nothing alive in it."
Leaning back, James shook his head, "No, I don't buy that. It's more likely some alien bug trickled out. I wanted to find a way to sterilize that hulk, preferably break it down to its component atoms. I was overruled."

"Jaa'nik, Devin- that will suffice. Thank you." He pointedly turned his back to the Tok'ra, fuming internally, and addressed Nick and Callista directly. "At this point, I think it's best if we come clean with the real reason for Nick's confinement and Janus's existence. We don't have anything to gain by continuing to perpetuate the cover story since it will out eventually. Now that we know for sure that Janus isn't a Goa'uld, I don't see the harm in it. Danny? Any thoughts?"

Nick started chuckling, "I think I've just been insulted. I'm not odd." He glanced over to Callista, who's bottom lip was hidded behind the teeth biting down, "Am I?"
She frantically shook her head 'no' but didn't trust herself to speak. Giddy with relief, the woman was afraid she'd start laughing and not be able to quit. No, not odd. You just talk to your brother who's been dead for 25 years.
Rolling his eyes, Nick got back to business. "I don't want to just get on the intercom and announce this. I'd like to keep it as low key as possible. Meet with the department heads and team leaders. Let them pass it along?"

((Sorry it took so long to post. My router decided to reset itself.))

Looking over at Doctor Aaronson, Jaa'nik gave him an angered stare, then muttered in Tok'ra at him. Considering, she said "Doctor Aaronson, as arrogant as I may seem to you, you must consider it from our perspective. Devin and I are speaking our minds in retrospect, with most, if not all, of the facts already at our disposal, so it's logical in a fashion that we'd arrive at the current conclusion with a small ammount of irritation that you didn't come to the conclusion quicker."

Pausing for a moment to draw breath, Jaa'nik continued "Now, as for letting the good General out. I do believe in time, that the two can come to an accord. But I have my doubts that it can come fast enough. Blue being 'sick' too long will invite rumour and speculation, which will undermine his leadership and could very well destablize the base. So my suggestion is that it is admitted that Blue has been blended and allow Janus to talk freely. Or, Janus could not talk at all, except at certain... closed therapies, where the two can come to an agreement of some kind."

Nick looked sceptical at this suggestion, "Would you let a small child speak freely in my situation? I wouldn't. I can't."
              ~Hey! I'm not a ...~, the pause dragged on, ~... nevermind.~
The man went on, "As I was saying, we have to reach an agreement before I can go back to normal duty. Right now, Janus is a toddler who's full of questions. I need a few days to answer some of these."
He turned to Gus, "We can explain the situation to the dept. heads and team leaders. Tell them why I'm bugging out for a while. At least then there's no speculation or rumors."

He wiped his eyes and got serious, "I don't see how he could have run afoul of a Gou'ald on the Alarius.
"I know.... like I said, it's way out there. Still, something is making me think it can't be an infectious agent. I'm no doctor, but I've never heard of something like that staying dormant. It would have reared its head during the initial searches when there were more potential hosts to infect. Maybe it's just my overactive imagination. Ah well, you've dealt with the Alarius a heck of a lot more than I have, Jim." Larry sighed.

"Anyway, what do you propose we do? I'd like to get out of here or at least get some food. What do you think they'd do if we wandered near the isolation lab to ostensibly ask one of the docs to let us get something?"

Gus took a deep breath and turned back to Dr. Almodeus. "Thank you for your input, Dr. Almodeus- at least we're all on the same page. Danny? Would you escort Dr. Almodeus out, please?"

He turned to Callista. "Department heads and team leaders. Set up a briefing as soon as feasible. Nick- who do you want to do the talking?"

(( OOC: Gus is a bit prickly- he's tired and cranky. And Jaa'nik's attitude rubbed him wrong. Nothing personal. ))

Nick held up a 'wait a minute' finger to Gus as he stopped his aide.
"Cal, if the briefing room is habitable, that would be good. The most semblance of normalcy." He plucked at the scrub suit he was wearing, "And a set of BDU's, if you would be so kind."
"Certainly, sir. I'll have them up here on the double." Cal answered calmly. She hoped that no one could tell that she was doing a 'happy dance' in her mind.
"Thank you." Facing Gus again, he sighed, "As much as I'd like to sit back and listen to you tell the whole tale, we'd better split the story between us."

"General, one last thing before I go." Devin said, looking over his shoulder, "DHD's almost ready, just need the main generator online so I can do some preliminary tests. Once that happens, we can contact the AU team and inform them that we no longer need a standard DHD. Now, General, I've got some work to do."

Gus nodded. "I can provide the backstory and introduction, if you like. At what point did you want to take over?"

He watched as Dr. Almodeus/Jaa'nik left the room, Danny trailing after. "I really don't like that Tok'ra," he muttered.

Rowena screwed up her face in pain, her jaw throbbing wildly. She opened her eyes, taking a moment to let the room stop spinning. It wasn't the first time she'd woken up, but it was the first that she felt strong enough to move a bit. She was feeling restless and confined here in the bed.

Closing her eyes again briefly, Rowena tried to focus on why she was here. She remembered being in the quarters... not her quarters... whose quarters? She remembered a face... two faces... Howard. It was Howard. And someone else. Oh, what did it ma.... pregnant. She's pregnant. Howard. She's pre...

Rowena felt a wave of sickness wash over her and found herself being rolled over gently as she vomited into a bucket. She... she had... The cadet was furious. Initially with the two officers who had put her here, just for a fraction of a second, then at herself. She felt sick with horror at what she had done, how she had tried to injure not only a senior officer, but a woman who was pregnant.

"God," she whispered slowly as she lay back.

Hermione brushed the sticky, damp wisps of hair away from Rowena's forehead. "It's alright. You'll live."
                          Yepp, it's blank down here.

The intercom on the wall crackled, and a female voice emerged. "Dr. Aaronson? Cadet Clayton is awake. Are you available, or should I page Dr. Winchester?"

Gus mentally shifted gears from the current conundrum, made a face at the thought of Rowena's and Jensen's reactions to seeing in each other in the same room, and pressed the button to reply. "Thanks. I'll handle it, don't page Jensen. In fact, he is to be expressly excluded from the care of the cadet. Understood?"

"Yes sir." The comm clicked off and Gus sighed.

"Nick, you think about it and get back to me. I obviously need to check up on Rowena. I'll be back in a while- hopefully by then Callista will have brought you a change of clothes." He grinned at the General and made a little bow before leaving the room.

He walked down the long corridor, mentally steeling himself as he turned right to cut past his office and the staff lounge. This could be interesting. A couple more turns and he was sauntering into the Med Bay. Holland and Hutchinson were up and chatting, and he nodded to them as he passed by to stop at the foot of Clayton's bed. Hermione was there and helping tend to her daughter, who was obviously suffering the after-effects of the concussion she'd suffered at Jensen's hands.

He kept his face as gentle as possible as he stepped closer and began to take her vitals. "Rowena," he said softly. "Do you remember what happened? A simple yes or no will suffice," he added, glancing over his shoulder at the Med Bay's other current residents.

"I... but... she's... and I... then he..." Rowena babbled, ignoring the instruction to reply with yes or no. "I hit her then... then he... and she's... she's pregnant and I..." Rowena started to sob, the sounds catching in her parched throat as Hermione gently stroked her back, trying to comfort her, looking to Gus for help.
                              Yepp, it's blank down here.

Gus sighed and reached behind him for the syringe and bottle he knew was on the shelf. He expertly filled the syringe, tapped it out, and inserted the needle into the port on the IV line leading to her hand.

"Just something to calm her down and provide some pain relief," he told Hermione gently. "It won't put her out. We need her to be awake for a bit."

Looking around, he sighed and called over one of the nurses. "Let's move the cadet into one of the recovery rooms," he said softly. "For privacy." In short order they had the bed and assorted equipment ready to move, waiting for the medication to take effect and for Rowena to relax her grip on Hermione.
