Problems with a GateWorld Ad? - Provide Ad DETAILS

It is back again! "Congratulations! You won!......." Translates roughly into the following. "Congratulations! You have wion a computer virus that avast! has successfully halted the connection of!"

Avast, my firewall and antivirus swoftware, stopped the virus from downloading to my computer.

Nope, it tried to download itself onto my computer, thankfully Avast stopped it from doing just that

If this website is going to start shooting viruses at people, I may not come here anymore.

I've been having problems with links being replaced with something that appears to redirect to an ad search engine. Two examples are below:

I've only seen it happen on this one lab computer, but it made it very difficult to even navigate to this thread.

hi - I get this annoying pop up - it says "roll over for more information" on the add and it comes when I touch the ad with the curser for sure - but it also randomly comes up with my curser not ven being near the thing

Same here. Pops up every other page, and refused to close usually.

Even if it's not being a problem, it's annoying- taking up the screen and such :/

Is it okay by Gateworld that adverts leave their little box and stretch all over my window? Cos Terminator DVD advert just did that

Exactly. That's why I love Adblock plus and will continue using it. I hate all ads. They are annoying.

it has its advantages, yes - but it also deprives darren from money to pay for gateworld - I rather deal with annoying ads than be without gateworld

I also think if it can be helped to make them less annoying by reporting them here - it is worth a try

That only works as long as the reporting gets something done about them within a time frame that's reasonable to the viewer.

After a week of a single bad ad disrupting my viewing of the site (full page overlays that are difficult-to-impossible to get rid make the site worthless), I removed GateWorld from my whitelist.

That fine if you want to take chances on coming across a potentially harmful ad. I, along with others, came across one myself here not too long ago. I'm just not willing to take a chance of that happening. Regardless if it causes GW not to make money, I'd rather pay a small fee in order to be ad free than place my computer and files at risk.
