Find a cap you want to use, then right click on it ,go to "Save image as" to save the pic to your computer files. You'll have to choose which pic file to use or create one.
Example : http://www.gateworld.net/gallery/dis..._display_media
Once you've saved it ,you can either post the pic as an attachment: click on Pic upload icon..JPG in the line of options in the reply box. When that button's panel comes up : Insert Image Uploader box.JPG
Click Basic Uploader, browse, choose the pic and upload it like so...normal_sg1_215_804.JPG
That posts as a "Thumbnail" so to see the full sized version, just click the attached pic.
Very easy once you get used to it BUT there are limits on how many pics we can post so posting attachments from your 'puter won't help for long if you want to post lots of images!
Easier to just get a free Photobucket account and save pics to your account "Library":
(Using my free PB as I don't have Imageshack or other sites."Imgur" is a free pic hosting site, but if pics are uploaded there they can be deleted after some time and others can use the pic too.)
The full cap is ok under our rules: less than 100KB in fileseize and not more than 700Pixels in width. but if I post it again as a "Thumbnail" it takes less visual space, and reduces the sizes.( That can really help others on slow connections or Dial-up!)

FAQ: Reading and posting Messages- Attachments

How do I attach a file to a post?
To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.
On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.
To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.
Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?
In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.
How do I add an image to a post?
If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.
To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert photos from your albums (?) in this way too.

FAQ: Can I hotlink pictures from GateWorld's Stargate Image Gallery?
Originally posted by FAQCan I hotlink pictures from GateWorld's Stargate Image Gallery?
You may hotlink to images in the Stargate Image Gallery ONLY on GateWorld Forum. Please do not hotlink on other sites, as it can have a significant impact on our bandwidth.
You can link the thumbnail-sized or regular-sized images, but please DO NOT hotlink the large, hi-res images.
This might be a glitch,or a deliberate change made by our SysAdmin when he recently had to repair the Gallery,so I've E-mailed Darren so he can check it out.The place to "Gate" to during Outages for updates and info:

Thanks y'all! I'll have to try it out.
And bagpuss, thanks for that proviso--I was trying to hotlink from the gallery to here and it wasn't working, which is why I asked.
*waits to see what the issue is with that*Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons; for you are Crunchy and good with Ketchup.
