Robert Carlyle/Dr Nicholas Rush Thunk/Appreciation thread
Sorry for not being here yesterday. Me, my mother, and brother went to spend some time at capital city. They went to some kids' festival, I met with my friend. At the end of the day, I missed our train back home, and had to spend the night at friends' place. That suited her plans , but not mine, since I have tons of packing to do. Going to move out tomorrow.

Uhm, analyzes samples sent to the lab. I'll know more in the coming weeks.
Good luck with the move! I don't envy you that job!
As for bioanalysis, I guess I was asking in terms of whether you would analyze samples for crime scenes, or for a hospital lab, or in a research and development lab of a big company, or....well, guess it's too early yet. Just wondered what most appeals to you about the job -- what attracts you to it.
After everyone went to bed last night, I had another all-night RC fest. Watched 28 Weeks Later, Dead Fish, and To End All Wars.
28 Weeks Later wasn't so bad, chiefly because the camera didn't rest on all the gore. But really, can a human being throw up that much blood and still have enough left to go chasing after its victims? As for RC,
Spoiler:
I was major league disappointed that he was out of the movie so soon. He gets top billing and hardly any lines at all. And in my opinion, the kids were the real monsters of the movie. They never showed one ounce of regret or remorse for leaving the Isle of Dogs and bringing back the Rage virus. And Tam didn't think twice about spreading the virus into continental Europe. Don may have acted cowardly, but his kids were cold!
Music for 28 Weeks Later is memorable. I was certain it was Murray Gold's work (Doctor Who), but turns out it was composed by John Murphy
Dead Fish was hysterical! Ever seen any of the films made by Savage Steve, like Better Off Dead? In it there's a newspaper boy who chases the main character and keeps asking for his two dollars due to him for the paper route. RC's character, Danny Devine, reminded me of the boy. "Where's my money? Where's my money?" Boy the man can talk!
I first saw To End All Wars while I was living in Japan. It has a certain measure of poignancy when the Japanese culture is as much a part of your life as is the western culture, be it American or British. Having seen more of RC's work since 2002 (and becoming more enamored of him!), it was more sobering to watch him as a POW who survives on hate. Moya Brennan of Clannad performs on the soundtrack.
RC's in a kilt! Of course, Lahela has several pics on her site:
And there's this one of him I found on another site (his clothes look too big for him):
He has an excuse for not wearing a kilt elsewhere. Some of you may not have seen this interview:

Oh. Right. Most likely hospital lab. It's actually a bit longer story why I chose it. Some know about it, some don't.

Spoiler:
About one and half years ago... or two and half... I ended up in a hospital. After spending several weeks in a local hospital, I was sent to Estonia's best hospital. Local doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, and they lacked the necessary equipment to run all sorts of tests. I remember that I had been coughing and I was ill quite often. The x-ray revealed a shadow in my right lung. In the, uh, better hospital they took sample of it - terrible procedure, thanks to the drugs don't remember most of it - and discovered that the shadow in my lung was in fact a rare tumor. A specialist hadn't seen anything like this during his 40 years of working. Well, a surgeon cut it out, I recovered. It was very painful, but hey, I survived. Then, in December last year, I had felt chest pain. Got another x-ray done. Family physician saw something there, and thought I have pneumonia. She wanted to send me to the hospital again. The surgeon, who operated on me, was busy. But when he saw the x-ray results, he invited me there immediately. There was something he wasn't happy about. He had his doubts, but there was no way to know for sure what was wrong. So, I had another thoracic surgery. That's why I wasn't around during Christmas, as some of you might remember. Turned out there was a surgical tampon sitting in my right lung, that had been left there from the first surgery. More tubes attached to my right side, more scars, and all because someone screwed up. Everyone from my family were very disappointed.
But I? I had the chance to see hospital work up close. It inspired me. I realized I wanted to do something similar, something related to health-care, so I could help people. I don't have it in me to become a doctor. After I got back from the hospital, and recovered a bit, I started doing research, looking for different jobs one can do. This one - bioanalyst - stood out. As I read about it, the job felt just right for me.
I had been thinking for years what to do with my life. This unpleasant event gave me a direction in life. I know this job isn't going to make me rich, and can be nasty sometimes. But I want to do it for something else.
@ egle: Good luck for your move and for your studies! And wow, thats a heavy story! Some years ago I nearly died after a routine surgery.
But talking of nicer things: I planned a RC evening but somehow I ended up with Babylon5 S1. I like 'To End All Wars' very much, although I don't like those kind of film. But RC is so amazing (a usual). I think I could watch everything with him.
How much time ago was the episode made, does anyone know?
To End All Wars was released in 2001. It's based on a true story by Ernest Gordon. One of my favorite scenes is when RC (Major Ian Campbell)
Spoiler:
is standing for roll call, wearing his kilt, and the Japanese officer just stares at him in complete amazement. When the officer turns away, Campbell leans over to the man next to him and says, "You think he fancies me?"

Whoa, blabbering again.
Mm, I just love this picture! Thanks for posting.
Wow that is quite a story. I'm glad you saw the positive side and I hope you do well in your studies
My Monday is starting off rough. I'm getting sick, or a cold, or something :/
I'm clammy (don't think I'm running a fever), but my throat is raw, I'm getting hot and cold flashes, and I'm overall, just achey. I think I might need some RC to make me feel better later. And try to get by work as best as I can.
