It was implied that the Foothold aliens might have been able to cross galaxies, yet the fact that they were never revealed to have challenged the Goa'uld suggests that they're not very powerful by current standards. They might have just had advanced hyperspace/FTL technology
To be fair, the Foothold Aliens may have just had a numbers problem (as all the big races do/did except for the Wraith & Goa'uld). Maybe a small population, or maybe just that one group within their race only had a small group and few ships. Think about it, say a Tau'ri team only had a couple of Jumpers & 302s, while the tech may be good, they couldn't take on anyone big.
As far as casting goes, I have it on good authority that the villains will
Spoiler:

If there isn't a bad guy around all the time, whats the point? there always seems to be some kind of bad person(s) stirring up trouble in the show. SG-1 always has the Gouald
Spoiler:
up until continuum with the end of them hopefully
,then the Replicators, Ori, and Atlantis Has Wraith, Todd (at times bad at times good), Michael and Replcators.

I still don't understand what you mean. Why do you need an ongoing enemy to make a show? I don't understand why you mean by 'what's the point?'.

never mind then. every season on SG-1 and Atlantis HAS some sort of enemy lurking around so is only implies that there needs to be some sort of enemy. If there isn't then thats cool with me, but just (to me) won;t make a good show in my opinion
In all seriousness, even Atlantis really doesn't have a main enemy right now. IN SG-1, it was literally their mission statement to acquire technology to defend against the Goa'uld & later to defeat the Ori. SG-1 accomplished both, assassinating all System Lord & Ori.
In Atlantis they were at war with the Asurans, but won pretty quickly. I'm not even sure that they are at war with the Wraith, because if they were, why wouldn't they be attacking the Wraith? The Expedition has the anonymity of Atlantis and 2-3 BC-304s that dominate Wraith Hives. They'd be doing gorilla attacks like in the Last Man if they were truly at war. So right now it's more episodic, imo.

Whatever the enemy, let's hope it's something new and bold. Perhaps put a spin on things and have an alien team ala SG-1 but consisting of nasties as the primary nemesis. But it will likely end up being yet another barbaric, ugly, class-based society of bad guys hell-bent on power and destruction. Bo-ring!
Making the Furlings the bad guys would be special. But I can almost certainly say that is just not gonna happen.
