There are several issues with this choice. The availability of Baldwin would be one. Depending on how the initial reason for mission is set up could be another. Dixon, being a family man, would not willingly leave for an Atlantis type mission with no means of return. However, if he was going on a survey mission which turns into a "three hour tour"...
He also comes with a Daniel Jackson-like character who is an archaeologist/linguist, from the original SG-13.

I would love to see Nathan Fillion or Bill Campbell, but that's just a geek dream.
Bill Campbell was in The 4400 and became very popular as his character Jordan Collier, and I wouldn't mind seeing him in Universe.

How about Ed Quinn? He just left Eureka and is known from his stint on CSINY, too. Of course, that'd depend on whether or not it was his decision to leave- and why. But as the "older" figure of the show, I think he'd work nicely and Eureka proves he's good at the deadpan snark.

Hmm. It's a fair point, actually. If anyone cares and has managed not to see the ep yet, I'll offer an apology, although I think casting stuff is a gray area. Just look at all the Save Daniel/Carson/Weir threads that cropped up months before the eps in question even aired and which pretty blatantly indicated that the characters were in need of saving.
I'm still not sure if he has any "star power" but then again, neither did Joe Flanigan.
