The look on his face suggested that he thought of bluffing before they told him that they would know if he did lie.Meanwhile, they could have shot Krista to make their point and then snatched up any man, woman or child of the street to continue to threaten him. We don't really know for sure what happened between his receiving the message and going to the stakeout.
I still can't agree that Daniel was right to do what he did. It was a mistake on his part to go off. They didn't even give him proof that they could help Teal'c or that they had Krista before he goes trotting off. And the fact that he didn't ask for any shows how out of his depth he was. This is *not* his area of expertise. He doesn't have the skills or experience, nor does he know the rules of the "game".
He went off on his own, *without* telling his CO and without getting backup--and don't give me the civilian stuff. Civilians working on military projects are required to sign an agreement to be bound by military rules and requirements--and he ended up giving the bad guys key information. In RL, Daniel would have been shown the door, or, at least, kept on a really tight leash for a long time.
This was a blunder on his part. One that will have serious consequences down the road.
