I laughed at the Tok'ras' hats.

Another Sunday afternoon, another ep of SG1 to catch up on.

1. This was 'not' an easy ep to watch from an S4 perspective for a lot of reasons. So much stuff that might have been a big deal to anyone watching it without foreknowledge of the next two years of Gate that was just...meh.

2. Looking back though, credit to Sam for going on this mission given the circumstances. As she said, she was pretty much irreplacable on this one. No one else would have been able to say with a straight face "Frankly...I remember enough to know you 'are' the Tok'ra".

3. You have to get up very early to catch Jack O'Neill.

4. Then came the cliffhanger though. Had to groan at SG3's bad timing and on compassionate grounds or not that was quite a gamble sending SG3 into hell knows what situation and in the immediate term, it damaged SG1's credibility. However from where I was at I knew full well how they were going to get out of the mess.

I understand why Jack was so skeptic of the Tok'ra. The first experience with them is with Jolinar taking implanting herself (?) in to Sam without permission--acting like a Gou'ld. The Tok'ra are every bit as arrogant as the Gou'ld, and (even when they hear about SG-1's defeat of Apophis' fleet) they are very dismissive of the abilities of the Tau'ri. While the Tok'ra have very different goals as the Gou'd, they are very much the same.

Actually, not all Tok'ra are that much like the Goa'uld. But early on, many of them do come across that way, especially as seen through the eyes of Tau'ri just getting to know them.

Better for who?

Martouf - yes.
Jolinar - indubitably.
The Tok'ra - possibly (but she seemed like a bit of a rebel who drew more attention to herself than the Tok'ra would have liked).
Sam - not likely (she would have been taken into custody and interogated by the NID for starters; then there's the trauma of being a host against her will).
Jack - definitely not!
Daniel - perhaps she could have helped him find Sha're but he wouldn't trade his friend for that knowledge.
Teal'c - Nope (he and Jolinar would never get along).

This episode was very good and interesting, we got to know that the Goa'uld/Tok'ras could have feelings and be " good ". But the Part II was better.

Introduction of Martuf and the Tok'ra in general. Jack, of course, couldn't care less about them. To him glowing eyes equal Goa'uld and that's that.

Not a bad episode, but not the best.

I will say this, though. Those tunnels are amazing! The production values on this show are some of the best in the industry.

I never liked the Tok'ra really, and I really didn't like Jacob at all.

Jack was sceptical, which is good, Daniel confused and Sam was all over the place (good job by AT there).

Love the Tok'ra tunnels. And have a good laugh at the Tok'ra grunts who don't get leggings.

Apparently my DVD-set has these episodes out of order -- I didn't even realize Spirits is supposed to be after The Tok'ra until Jelgate pointed it out just now.

Anyhow...


I just watched Tok'ra part 1 and I'm about ready to strangle them and blow them to smithereens cause... grrr... arrogant much.

Martouf/Lantash is about the only one that I like. Yusuf is hilarious, totally Garshaw's opposite. And the funny hats, I'd forgot about those.

At first I wasn't sure what to think of the Tok'ra. But the more times I watched these introductory episodes, the more I found them fascinating. Of course JR Bourne being around didn't hurt at all!

Brilliant two parter. My fav two parter at the moment (i am a newbie and only on season 3) and it really made me love Sam Carter perhaps more. Also Amanda Tapping gave a brilliant performance in it as well.

Just wait until you get to Jolinar's Memories and The Devil You Know. Those are excellent episodes!
