Heru'ur escaped through the Stargate before the Asgard were able to beam him from the surface of the planet.

    It's that simple guys.

ok. I've got a question in this episode. It may have been asked before and if so, please bare with me for not knowing it.

When the SG-1 says that they are responsible for the destruction of the planet's security, I was confused. How do they become responsible of it? First of all, all they destroyed was the hammer that kills the goa'uld. Not the hammer in front of the stargate. So even if some Jaffa or Goa'uld stepped through the gate, they would have been beamed into the mountain. And SG-1 adviced the lady to seal up the entrance so even if someone got beamed in, they wouldn't have been able to come out.

And on the other hand, how did Heru'ur know that the hammer was broken? They said that all Jaffa were taught of the symbols so that they would never go there. So how would he or anyone else know that it is unsafe. And even if he did because of his arrogance, wouldn't he have got beamed into the cave?

And lastly, how was the hammer going to protect ships coming from orbit? The hammer only guards the gate (which was a weak point in the first place. Have a look at the time it takes to charge up). Unless there were hidden weapons which will blow up the ships, planet was not safe from invasions. If such weapons exists, then why didn't asguard instruct SG-1 to use it or something?

Just asking my questions. Share your thoughts.

Perhaps when the device beams you it also disabled the weapons (hence they did not work in the catacombes. But since the other side had been disabled, the beaming part also stopped working.

In the end of Thor's Hammer, SG-1 told them to bury the cave entrance so any Goa'uld who enters will be trapped. So I assume it works. Furthermore, if all Goa'uld and Jaffa are warned about not going there, what would have made Heru'er go?

How would SG-1 have any idea how the Hammer really worked? They were speculating. Just like they thought burying the Gate in Tin Man would not likely cause any issues, they thought that burying the the entrance would work, clearly it did not.

Perhaps Heru'er periodically sacrifices jaffa to test previously in-accessible places. Perhaps he has human spies, former slaves whose job is to go from world to world and report back to Heru'er the status. He would want to know quickly if his enemies abandoned a facility or were killed. Perhaps it was just that time of the year to send a spy to that planet and see if the Asgard still care. "Oh look, they don't, cool lets take it over".
Joseph Mallozzi -"In the meantime, I'm into season 5 of OZ (where the show takes an unfortunate hairpin turn into "the not so wonderful world of fantasy")"

^^^ Kinda sounds like seasons 9 and 10 of SG-1 to me. Thor, ya got Aspirin?

AGateFan has officially Gone Fishin (with Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c) and is hoping Atlantis does not take that same hairpin turn.

Interesting theory. Assumption but definitely a possible scenario. Thanks for that.

I got the impression that the planet is under Asgard protection. So, I think Thor has some sort of sensor whenever some ship is approching the planet. Perhaps when Heru'ur attacked, Thor was away busy doing Asgard stuff.

This is one of the better Season 2 episodes. Finally we see the Asgard in action. And we see Horus Guards for the first time since the Stargate movie.

The scene where each of SG1 was taking responsibility for what happened to the planet was really amusing, especialy when it was Carter's turn.
Agreed, made it a good episode. Also for me the introduction to a new Goa'uld, finally getting to see the Asgard and for them to know that we are now exploring through the Stargate and Horus guard made it pretty cool too.

Haha yep that part was pretty funny.

Oh and not sure if anyone noticed, I noticed for the last 2 or 3 episodes but Sam carries a Zat instead of her sidearm. They should be working up a stock pile of Goa'uld weapons, they could come in handy - especially Zats.

I liked the challenges part to, reminds me of season 9/10 Ancient challenges/quests.

                    Not a bad episode.

Glad we finally revisited a world in which the SGC impact to the local culture has potentially dire consequences.

Glad we finally get to see Thor.

And finally, I have to agree with someone who mentioned that it's not often that we get to see a female planetary leader who isn't a Goa'uld or madly in love with a member of the team (or both). Thankfully, TPTB get better about that kind of stuff overall in later seasons.
