That's not really the point. Of course the Prior needed the energy, but he also felt the need to use some of his energy to shield the gate from destruction.

And if gates are indestructible, what exactly is the point of the Ancient weapon used by Anubis in Redemption? Seemed pretty clear from the ep that it was designed to feed energy into the receiving gate until it went boom...which it eventually did.

      The Shroud:
      Spoiler:
A Gatebuster nuke placed "behind" an active Stargate did obliterate the gate connecting to the Supergate.

In atlantis season 2, there was a gate which got destroyed after falling into lava..

Concerning Inferno, we only saw the gate fall into the lava. We saw it sinking down. It didn't even seem phased for the short period of time we saw it in the lava though. No melting.
But it failed to make a connection when we dialed it back.. the Lava would not have prevented it.. Unless the gate was no more.

I think the supervolcanic eruption would more likely have caused the demise of that gate.

well, we have seen that a connection can be prevented if there was something that was blocking the event horizon, like in "48 hours", they moved the iris so that it would block the gate and prevent a wormhole from forming and deleting Teal'c.

One would be redemption as already mention.
The tollan gate was destroyed by the guy in season four, I forget his name, when they failed to deliver the bombs that go through solid matter. He was a spy for Apophis against the Tokra.
The replicators destroyed one in BAMSR. Shepard could dial in to his team who was helping with the evacuation.

It's still the story as Teal'c understood it. Sicne the gate would have been destroyed, unless they took a ship over there, they could have not verified that, in fact, the gate was really destroyed.
So they probably made an asumption. Besides, blowing up the stargate would have required that emissary was entirely made of naqahdah and potassium.

Well, the Prior didn't take any chance, based on Mitchell's words. The external shell of the stargate was glowing hot, but contrary to a stargate located in space, like it was the case in Shroud, the one in Beachhead was on a planet, which means remained swimming in a cloud of plasma for quite some time.
The cases aren't exactly similar, since in space, if the radiations miss the stargate, they won't heat up gases to reradiate energy in all directions.

I think we actually see the stargate crack.

Only if the ships themselves released hundreds of gigatons, which didn't happen.

At that time, the SGC thought that C4 could destroy a stargate, so they didn't check out, but it's very very likely that the stargate was still intact and kicked far away, and has either crashed somewhere in Sol system, or is still drifting outside of the system, somewhere.

As for the Nox-Tollan gate, it was probably quite fragile.

If the gate from Serpent's Lair was not destroyed, the SGC would have salvaged it by now.
