Three quarters of my way through a literature review, and first episode Children of the Gods watched.
I forgot how much I enjoy watching stargate. Jack's warped sense of humor is evident straight away. Best of all I loved the initial meeting between Carter and Dr Jackson when they had that excited nerdy geeky conversation.

On the whole I think CotG is an excellent ep. I've finally finally finally seen the uncut version with the (now notorious) Beer Drinking Scene and I love it. Not so enamoured of the nudity for nudity's sake (which bordered on soft porn IMO) but it was an absolutely brilliant opener to a great series.Comment

Thing is, to me the nudity in it was not just for the sake of having nudity. to me it made the evilness of how the Gou'ald are and what they do to take you over more in your face..Comment

nah - I don't buy that. When I saw it on German TV (I'm sure that's where I saw it) the nudity didn't involve boob close ups and the snake crawling up her body. That was a bit too much for me (and I ain't what anyone would describe as a shrinking violet
)

I must agree with others who've said it's functional nudity; it shows vulnerability and how little the Goa'uld think of humans (with that creepy Apophis leering at both Sgt Ketterings and Sha're). When the pilot was premiered in my country it had the nudity and I wasn't bothered by it. Boobs are functional parts of the female body. They really aren't sexual, except for people who choose to see them as sexual. In other words, the sexualization is in the eye of the beholder, at least as far as I'm concerned.
Throughout most of human civilization around much if not most of the globe, breasts really weren't considered sexual.Sum, ergo scribo...

I thought it was all totally unnecessary, not because of the nudity but because it would've been scarier to keep the camera on their faces and leave the rest to our imaginations.
And, too, I'm squeamish. I don't watch that scene when I rewatch the episode.

...I used to be shocked by it, but the way tv is nowdays some things I've seen make it look tame.
Facebook post about Alexis Cruz and the Audiobook he's done. If you're a fan of Alexis and his work - you'll love it. Book 1 and 2 are there now. The second one is brilliant, but I can't vouch for the first one (not having heard it), but I'm sure it's just as good, if not better.
