In my reality they rennovated a farmhouse in Virginia. I believe you know what town, I can't remember. Because Sam almost certainly inherited a TON of money from Jacob. Even if he'd retired - and we never really know for certain if he did or not.. I personally have always doubted there was time to retire him between Secrets and the Tok'ra given the speed of the military, It would have likely been around 10,000 dollars a month or so automatically deposited into an account for 6 years and NO living expenses. If he hadn't retired and they'd been paying him for being away from home (which knowing the military they probably were) the mind boggles...

Let's just say rennovating really expensive real estate would be a great way to invest that money for people who don't need to touch any of the money themselves for living expenses .

I get dizzy just thinking about what the bank accounts of the military folks on Atlantis look like, at least those who are single.

Yeah, these are the things John and I speculate about when we watch Stargate here. Fascinating and tedious accountant type people, aren't we?

And would you believe we bought the first house in the first community we looked? We fell instantly in love.
I think, considering the point they were in and the fact there'd been no obvious romance between Sam and Jack at that point, the fact his reason against them being engaged was JUST the regs is telling. He didn't say, "her?" as though he'd never considered the idea... I got the definite impression the idea of dating Sam wasn't foreign to him, but that the regs were the reason he'd dismissed the thought without acting on it. By the time he uses the rules as a reason why he and Sam didn't make a good couple to AU Kawalski in PoV, I got the definite impression that they had become nothing more than an excuse for not pursuing Sam, and by then the real reason was the one he gave AU Sam later - "Why did you marry such a loser?"

EDIT: The reason for DC instead of Col Springs - they had both left Colorado possibly forever, Sam's postings were likely to be far more temporary than Jack's given the points in their respective careers, with Jack's geography more stable and also were Sam was most likely to eventually end up, so it made sense to have him overseeing the rennovation from there. Plus, Nevada's the middle of a desert....

Some people like deserts, not me, though, but there are areas in Nevada other than Las Vegas and Reno, I think Mesquite is one that getting popular. Not that I know what it's like, except it has golf courses, natch. What's crazy is people retiring to desert areas and trying to turn them into like where they came from, or even like Florida.. I saw some like that in Arizona, building houses on canals. The water evaporation must be terrific.

Some of my fav quotes are from Teal'c thought I can't quote them exactly, one is where he's been watching TV and thinks the streets of the US are dangerous and he wants to carry his staff weapon, (Cold Lazarus) and another I don't remember the ep but he says something about tearing someone's limbs off.

An Ode to the Sam/Jack Ship Family
Upon Reaching 5,000 Posts

For two long years plus 60 more days,
With laptop, mouse and in a haze,
I've talked to folks from near and far,
Through Gateworld, our guiding star.

For longer still, we all have shared
The adventures of the team that cares
About doing right wherever it goes
And making friends and defeating foes.

And as the saga draws to an end,
We know we're going to miss our friends,
