Valenship: A Sam/Jack Celebration!

Touch #1



This first touch is not at all romantic or sweet. Sam is so caught up in the scientific wonder that is the Stargate she loses track of why she’s standing there—they have a mission. Jack, never one for patience, pushes her through. From his look and the earlier teasing there is more playfulness than spite to his actions.

Touch #2



Travelling through the gate for the first time isn’t the same as reading about it (especially when you’ve been pushed) and Sam’s not feeling so well. Jack, still skeptical of her ability to hack it, treats her like one of the boys and slaps her on the shoulder in mock sympathy, essentially telling her to suck it up. He’s not really interested in her predicament though because he doesn’t even look at her as he passes.

Touch #3



After Sam takes a hit from Kawalsky in the elevator, Jack actually shows some friendly concern for her by subtly placing a hand on her arm as they sit down for a briefing. The first indication that he’s considering taking down his “I don’t like scientists” sign.

Touch #4



Jack still isn’t sure how to deal with his smart, tough and decidedly pretty Captain. When he learns that she could probably take him in a fight he’s surprised, impressed, and maybe even a little aroused?

Touch #5



The lip lock Sam lays on him is the obvious contact, but the more revealing is Jack’s confused reaction. He alternately reaches for her and pushes her away, knowing he would never take advantage but finding himself strongly attracted.

Touch #6



Jack fights off the aggressive seductions of an alien influenced Sam, but he is a man and beginning to succumb to the virus himself. So just before carrying her off to the infirmary he can’t help but indulge.

Touch #7



Sam is extremely disappointed in a commanding officer she was coming to respect when they discover Jack nearly naked, but her compassion is stirred when they realize he’s been drugged. She grabs hold of him as he passes out, willing to help break his fall.

Touch #8



Sam gently cradles Jack in her arms as he passes out for a second time. The way she holds him and caresses his face, it’s not the action of just a good soldier coming to the aid of her commander. Perhaps some softer feelings for Jack are beginning to stir within her.

Touch #9



Upset and distraught about initially leaving him behind Sam seems to be holding on to Jack not just to steady him in his temporarily advanced age but to reassure them both that she will bring him home, not just now but always, as we later come to see.

Touch #10



See Jack die caused Sam to ignore her training and jump from cover to try and get to him. When she finds they are both alive in the Nox hut she feels the spot where he was wounded, gently stroking the skin as if trying to convince herself it’s all real. Then as Jack sits up Sam keeps her hand on his back as he awakes and gets up, not willing to give up the connection so quickly and Jack doesn’t seem to mind.

Touch #11



This may seem like something of a spontaneous act and one to be expected from someone like Jack who is wired to protect, but look at the way he pulls Sam away from the crumbling ledge. He grabs her forcefully so she goes down the stairs first and he can shield her. Then keeps a hand on her back as they get up. Sam then briefly places a hand on his back in acknowledgment of his care for her.

Touch #12



While the whole team is holding on to one another as they come through the gate after supposedly loosing Daniel, Jack clings to Sam with both hands. He pulls her forward, almost showing a desperation to save her where he couldn’t save Daniel.
