Hehe that's the one that's appealing to my muse more right now. I don't really like writing Daniel, I prefer writing Teal'c, he's more of a challenge. Daniel is too predictable sometimes.

It's a good thing that RDA would have most likely refused. And another possible reason that they didn't have Jack do it: It may have driven a wedge between him and Sam.

Write the one where Jacob tears into Sam first! It is worthy of standing on its own!

Makes sense. My dad and I talk about Stargate a lot. Especially the current discussion. That's one of the reasons I'm writing my Tok'ra story. The events of D&C still happened, but he's going to live.

No, seriously, my fics (with the exception of Can't Stop Now) tend to just be words blurted onto a page in a single shot once my muse takes over. I get an idea, I write it in around 3000 words or so and boom, done. Probably why they're usually one shots.

One character I really struggle with is Janet. In my head, Janet is two people - one is the fun-loving shipper Janet who wants to see Sam happy and the other is canon Janet who is by-the-book and silently worries/disapproves of Sam's feelings for Jack because she's concerned it might ruin Sam's career/life/happiness. Any tips?

I see Janet as a shipper, but in the proper time and place. If it's somewhere like the Mountain, she has to be much more subtle in her views.

Cassie's a shipper to the core!

And that's the polar opposite of me: I prefer writing longer stories!

I just had a thought. Someone mentioned Robert C. Cooper killing of Asgards and Abydonians.
To think of it, almost every storyline they wrapped up ended in death: Replicators, Ori, Goa'uld, Sha're.
So _maybe_ (just maybe..) we should be happy they left Sam and Jack unresolved...

The only thing wrong with that idea would be there would have been no movies.

Yep, totally! The thing that seals Cassie as a shipper for me is the moment in "Rite of Passage" when she says to Sam that Jack always pretends he's not smart. It's nothing overt, it's just a combination of Sam's answer, Cassie's facial expressions and the general tone of the conversation about him screams "oh, come on, will you two just get married and have babies already?!" Lol.

Yep, I hate that Janet is in that situation, it makes it kinda hard to discuss the problem with your best mate if she's duty-bound to report you for fraternisation :s

That said, I reckon the Pete nonsense wouldn't have lasted nearly as long had Janet not died. Sam was, for all intents and purposes, alone. Can't talk to Daniel coz he's Jack's best buddy. Can't talk to Teal'c because he would want to give a solution or just listen and offer sage advice, not a thinking out loud discussion. Can't talk to Cassie coz she's a teen who just lost her mum. Can't talk to her brother or his wife coz he's Pete's best pal and hates the AF anyway. Can't talk to Dad, coz, well, he's Dad (and also a General). Meh, now I feel really sad for Sam

Maybe that's why they axed Janet! So no one could get in the way!

I've read several fics where Cassie absolutely despises ! Really well written.

They killed Jacob for the same reason they killed Janet. They thought the 8th season was going to be their last season, so they used him the same way they used Janet.

If they had killed off Sam and Jack as you suggest in your post, there would have been no movies when the series ended. If you kill off two of the main stars, how do you make any movies?
