How did the proposal happen?

hmm, the proposal...

sam comes home, from a rough day at work. she's grumpy, stressed, and feels like she might be coming down with something. she walks into the kitchen, where jack is sitting at the table, reading the paper and drinking coffee. he merely watches her while she goes on about her crappy day, also trying to find something to eat. he grins, watching her cuss out a carton of milk that refuses to be opened.

jack: sam?

sam: what!?

jack: marry me?

sam: .......

jack: is that a yes or no?

sam: don't you want to wait until i'm in a better mood to ask me???

jack: no.

sam: why!?

jack: because i find you unbelievably cute when you're ticked.

sam: ......

jack: and frightening.

sam: yes.

jack: yes, as in you're admitting you're frightening?

sam: no.

jack: or yes you'll marry me?

sam: yes.

jack: really?

sam: yes.

jack: for sure?

sam: YES.

jack: cool.


sam walks over, pulls jack up, and kisses his face off.

How did the proposal happen?

Well... Jack was there. Sam was there. There was a ring. But then they fell in the angst cavern(you see, fate was trying to keep them apart again!). Once things got back on track, some fluffy things happened. They agreed to get hitched. Now they're soooo married. The end.

Sam turned her head to look at Jack, who shrugged. “You’re the genius, Carter.”

The genius grinned. “Well, I will be in Nevada.”

“You will.”

“And there’s this city there.”

“The one with all the Elvises?”

“That’s right.” She patted his cheek as she would a child’s. “And you’ve got some time off, and so do I.”

“That we do.”

“So I figure we could go there for a few days.”

“Hang out.”

“Relax.”

“Meditate on the Goa’uld and their bodily functions.”

“Get hitched.” The hurt sadness that had clouded her eyes for weeks had fled, leaving a hopeful radiance. She caught his gaze, “And then I was thinking about this cabin I’ve heard about. And doing a little fishing.”

Jack smiled, then ran the backs of his fingers down the perfect line that was her cheek.

“Well, spank me rosy.”

“That could be arranged, too, sir.”

LOL, it's been a long time since I sat down and read a fic of that length in one sitting.

I think I'll try my hand at it...

and are fishing (and I mean actual fishing, not what some have turned fishing into around here...). I am also in the camp that the engagement happened sometime between season 8 and 9.

Anywho...
Sam: I'll miss our fishing trips.
Jack: You know we won't be that far away.
Sam: Jack...Nevada and DC aren't exactly close...
Jack: 2,430 miles, give or take. I Googled it.
Sam: *smiles* You know...I've been thinking...
Jack: I seriously doubt you stop.
Sam: Jack...I'm trying to be serious here.
Jack: So am I, I said 'seriously', however, go ahead.
Sam: Maybe the fishing trips don't have to end.
Jack: What do you mean?
Sam: I mean...what do you think about you and me fishing...forever?
Jack: *clears his throat* I did say always.
Sam: Yes, you did...
Jack: I think that could be arranged.
Sam: So, that's a yes?
Jack: Of course it's a yes, Carter.
Sam: I guess that means we're engaged?
Jack: Yes.
Sam: Sweet.
Jack: *smiles* Yes, and you asked me.
Sam: For some reason I knew you would say yes.
Jack: You know they say great minds think alike. *pulls out a burgundy ring box and hands it to Sam*
Sam: Jack...
Jack: Sam...
They kiss...the end...err...beginning.

I just can't believe that Jack and Sam would be *that* comfortable with each other ten years after Threads and *nothing* happened. I think how could you avoid that particular conversation and be okay.... so like I said, well written but I just can't pull myself into the story line

Didn't even bother reading past the first bit cause, yeah. Exactly. If they went through the events of Threads and still didn't get together after 10 years then they're so dysfunctional and maladjusted that it hardly even matters anymore.

And yes, I know, I'm putting my interpretation of the events of Threads before other people's, but it is *mine* and you can't convince me their having waited to do much far beyond the events of Threads makes one bit of sense and isn't desperately OOC.
