The Best of the Ship is . . .
Season 5: Enemies - Jack loses a verbal sparing match with Jacob and Sam flippantly tells him, "Welcome to my life." (6)
vs.
Continuum: Sam loses focus when she realizes Jack is dead and Cam has to snap her out of it (5)
*****
hlndncr, I hate you for pairing these together. I love them both!
But I think for this one, I'm going with the more light-hearted one. In Continuum, I love the depth of Sam's emotion-- Jack's the only one who can rattle her so much, and losing him devastated her.
In this case though, I love it when Sam says "Welcome to my life" because you know she's really thinking "This is what you have to look forward to. Better get used to it." And of course it's clear that Jacob has included Jack in their little familial group by participating in the banter. It's a great moment of pre-ship, and it wins out over the sadder, deathier moment of Continuum.
I usually like the AU, CD angst, but I have to say that Sam's grin wins out over everything.
And yes, I used the word "deathier".
P.S. I didn't get a chance to vote for the last one, but I would have chosen the "Engaged?!" moment too. I love Desperate Measures, and I believe that episode is full of ship, but I don't agree that Jack giving up his Nat. Geo.s was a huge indication of ship. He would have done that for any member of SG-1. Now, if it had been the "Good timing" rescue scene, one hundred percent YES. But as it is, the guiltily exclaimed "Engaged?!" moment is a classic indication that Jack is having thoughts he shouldn't have.
