Sounds reasonable! So the Goa'uld wasn't doing so well in their previous hosts (maybe they weren't quite as compatible? or high-maintenance?) and then they found humans and could suddenly prosper. Maybe it was very difficult for them to take a new host and live with the others? Unas? Or it is Asgard? my favorite explanation was that it wasn't his Unas host that was dieing, but an Asgard one: http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Ra (they site RPG books/sites for their references, so maybe they're worth reading?)
