You mean adding external links or adding a livejournal cut?
Livejournal is really annoying at links; you have to select the text you want to create the link from before clicking the add url button.
Livejournal cut by selecting the text you want to cut and hitting the ljcut button. It should then have a greyer area which is the portion which goes under the cut.
