The way that FiaD was done, seeming at first to take place over days or weeks during which Daniel held a whopping grudge against Teal'c, does serve to mask the fact that in reality he forgave Teal'c instantly.

The vision Daniel had was fragmented and confused. It's debatable whether that was because of Sha're's lack of ability to totally control Daniel's mind, and Daniel's thoughts were breaking through into the message she was trying to give him, or because Sah're was dying and wasn't totally thinking straight herself.

Either way, I think that what that ep shows is that Daniel has it in him to resent Teal'c, but that his better nature is stronger. Which is consistent with how Daniel behaves in Secrets, Cor Ai and Thor's Hammer.

sha're was not controlling his mind, she was asking him to find her child. in no way does it appear, to me, that she is controlling him or that in parts he is breaking through a mind control. he is trying to process both her death and her dying request, and this is how his mind raced through that process.

i like what you say about his better nature though. every human has the capacity to hate the person who killed their wife or loved one, even in self defense, or in this case, his defense. in fact, considering how most people in the US feel about the death penalty, i'd say this is more the norm then not. but like you say, daniel's better nature is stronger, and in this way, he is a far better then person most of us, non-fictional, humans.

what i like about jackson, is that his character represents the best of us, but never does it in a way that is preposterous. in FIAD, his race through anger and hate shows a pretty normal reaction. that he ends up in complete forgiveness in a matter of seconds, is what makes him better then us, and a great fictional representative of the best we are capable of achieving.

shame on tptb for not using this incredible character as they should. he is a brilliant creation. he is mythic in his genius and achievements, and shaksperean in the depths of his tragedy - from his childhood to his descension. in many ways this makes him the lead character, or should, for none of the others have this breadth and depth, and none of the others have an actor of this caliber portraying them.

its pretty pathetic that they've failed to capitalize on what he is. like i said in some other forum (and i forget where), i don't think they have a clue about what they have created. i don't think there's any other character on television like this and they have, and apparently continue, to ignore it.

what a waste.

i watch this show, and i watch very little television, because of this character. its a shame that niether the producers nor the writers took advantage of the opportunity he presented in season 7, or that they handled him as badly as they did in season 5.

the funny thing about season 5 though, is that their mistreatment of the character only served to heighten his pathos. it has to make a person smile.

maybe they will address this in the 8th season. maybe they are actually paying attention to the more intelligent 2/3 of fandom.

I agree with a lot of what you said. One of the biggest draws to Daniel for me is that despite his self-sacrificing, he still is very human. I think Absolute Power showed that more than anything. If Daniel had absolute power, it still may corrupt even the coffee-addicted archaeologist.

His character is one of the main reasons I love Stargate. MS's acting catching the subtleness of Daniel's character. He's complex; self-sacrificing without being self-righteous, smart without being weak, willing to go the extra mile for those he loves without loosing sight of the bigger picture of the universe.

Sometimes I think the writers have created a charater that even they don't seem to understand fully, and therein lies the difficulties of fully utilizing him. Honestly, I enjoy Stargate no matter what season. I do, however, enjoy it a lot more when the characters are reacting consistently, and I have seen that slip a bit in season 7 (especially the Daniel Jack relationship).

I too have to agree with what's been said. I originally started watching the show because I knew that RDA was going to star in it and I really enjoyed the movie. But then after that first episode, I completely fell in love with Daniel. I see him as the type of person I would like to be. (I sometimes have problems with the self-sacrificing. )

IMO it was. I believe that if these events had been allowed to continue naturally, the outcome would have been Daniel not forgiving Tealc and leaving the SG1 and the SGC. I don't know how she was able to do it but She managed to show Daniel that he had it within him to forgive Tealc. She also gave him another reason to go on with his life. The search for her son. It was through her intervention that Daniel was able to achieve a sort of closure about her death and in doing so be able to forgive Tealc for his part in it.

Hey, we can be shallow and deep at the same time. I also think that the events of the dream would have happened in reality, too.

I started watching the show for Daniel. Someone who knows my taste in tv characters told me I would like him, so after a long time, I decided to check the show out. And, she was right!

Sometimes I think the writers have created a charater that even they don't seem to understand fully, and therein lies the difficulties of fully utilizing him.

Maybe the problem is these writers didn't create Daniel. He was already Daniel from the movie. And, haven't there been some changes in writing staff from the early seasons as well? Even if not, there's still the movie Daniel. I think his character doesn't fit in with the current outlook of the writers. He's not the typical sci-fi, action/adventure hero. I don't think they understand him.

Okay, I went deep there. Feel free to keep being shallow if you want.
