I don't think it's an incorrect assumption, necessarily. It was certainly true for me when I traveled from Oklahoma to AT2. There are some awfully cool people on Samanda, and I was as excited about meeting them as I was to see Amanda. I honestly don't know that I would have gone if I hadn't known I would be meeting with them. Meeting Amanda was icing on the cake.

So, where are you in Oklahoma?

I'm going and I don't actually "know" anyone. I only know people from online, haven't met anyone in person. I guess that's why I say to spend that kind of money without it being an "event"....I think everyone's great that I've met online but couldn't really afford to spend it to go and just meet all the fans. I'd fly somewhere in the US for that kind of gathering but not to London. I agree that Amanda has the greatest fans of any artist and they directly reflect on her. That's why I enjoy hanging around.

Oh yeah, I live in Oklahoma City, near the Moore/Norman area. Where are you at? I wondered if you in OK since you had Tornado alley listed as your location. I'm sitting here listening to some nasty thunder right now. We've got tornado warnings popping up for the afternoon. How about for where you live???

It wasn't a long plane ride for me, so I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment... but I don't think I would have gone if it wasn't for all the fans as well. I think it was a combination of the two. As for conventions in general.... there's talks of flying out to the west coast in summer (though location hasn't yet been decided!) to see everyone. Depending on location depends on whether I can afford the local con ticket. But con ticket or no, I know that I will have an awesome time with fellow fans. I'd be going for them... the con would just be a plus.

I personally don't like PDL's comments, and when he teams up with Gary Jones, it's basically a waste of time. I've never been so disappointed as I was with the commentary for Reckoning and Moebius in Season 8. Here we have the tie up to the Gould/Replicator storyline and all they could do was the PDL/Gary Jones comedy hour complete with lewd off color jokes. I wanted to hear what happened on set, what the actors were doing, etc. Instead I heard about what PDL and Gary Jones were doing at that moment. Very disappointing.

I don't really like Jim Menard's commentaries either. Too technical. I really don't care how they made the set, how they lit the set etc - I want more personal stuff.

I agree. I'm happy they weren't allowed to do them anymore in season 10. I might be a little biased but I think Amanda and Martin Wood are the best commentary combo. I like Michael and Chris as well (although it seemed Chris couldn't get a word in during the AOT commentary). I also like Joe Mallozi, he and Michelle Comens did some good ones. Martin Gero is funny but rarely lets anyone else talk. I like Robert Cooper's commentary with Amanda and Martin Wood on Lost City but the commentaries on the episodes he directed (and the movie) are too technical.

in any case, i agree, the amanda/martin ones are very enjoyable. they balance fun trivia with behind the scenes know how and manage to keep it fun

jim menard...is a very talented person but just gets so caught up in his work that he forgets that not everyone is a lighting technician
