Dear All,

We’ve been talking on Samanda about quilts and charity donations and I have come up with a little project that everyone can take part in, even if they are not attending AT3. It’s open to everyone even if they are not attending AT3, or on Gateworld, so you can cross post this to any relevant list or forum you wish.

Here’s the plan.
Everyone who wants to take part needs to purchase a FAT QUARTER of PATCHWORK 100% Cotton fabric in a predominantly Blue colour/ pattern. Please only normal cotton fabric (no flannel or brushed cottons please). Just pick something you like.

In case you don’t know, a fat quarter is a yard or metre of fabric cut horizontally and vertically down the middle to yield four rectangular pieces of fabric about the size of a napkin. Any patchwork shop will know what you mean and have a selection of fabrics to choose from. “metric” (where fabric is normally sold by the metre) or “Imperial” (sold by the yard) fat quarters are both okay. You just need a single fat quarter.

Once you have your fat quarter you need to do something very very important. This isn’t a step you can skip, it’s vital.

You need to give your fabric a hug.

Don’t be shy, just hug it!!!

The finished quilt is going to be called “The Quilt of Many Hugs”
If you can, get a picture taken of you hugging your fabric, I will ask you to e-mail that to me along with your name at a later date so I can put them all together as evidence of the hugs that have been infused into the quilt.

Once you have charged your fabric with hugs, I need you to post it to me as soon as possible. Please, if you can, use normal stamps as opposed to the printed labels the post office issue. The hearing dogs collect postage stamps for fundraising.

I will make up the fabric into a quilt. Before I piece it I will embroider the name of the donator onto a patch of the fabric you donated with my embroidery machine. It will be in a unifying font, you don’t need to sign anything.

You can get patchwork fabric from Hobbycraft, Joann fabrics or specialist patchwork shops. If you have trouble locating a mail order place I recommend in the USA http://www.equilter.com/ They have a great range for you to choose from and have a program where they donate 2% of your purchase to charity. If you don’t have a local shop or one you can get to, most shops do mail order off their websites and Equilter .com ship all over the world.

We would also like to use this opportunity to raise a little bit of money for the charity, so we also ask that you make a small donation (at least £5) to Hearing dogs. For people in the UK, please send a cheque with your fabric. Please make the cheque payable to “Hearing Dogs for Deaf People”. We’d also be grateful if UK taxpayers could complete a simple gift aid declaration ( which I can e-mail to you) which enables the charity to re-claim from the Inland revenue 28p extra for every £1 donated.

For those of you outside the UK, we are just checking with the charity the most cost effective ay of accepting overseas donations. Please leave that one with us for a few days while we check things out.
But don’t let it stop you buying your fabric, charging it with hugs and sending it to me.

When the quilt is finished, it will be presented to Amanda as a great big ever lasting hug from all her fans.

Just wanted to let you know that my procrastination has come to an end with sending out my fat quarter! *bounces* Had my fabric picked out for days and days, but have been really lazy since I knew the deadline for getting it sent was end of September. Anyway, just hugged my quarter, took my pic, addressed the envelope and running out the door right now to get it into the mail! *feels proud*

Oh and btw...I had to go back like 40 pgs almost to find this post hahaha...damn are we good!

Yeah me too, I know what you mean, I can ship/slash Sam with almost everyone actually. It is rather sad But I prefer Sam/Janet and Sam/Jack. Recently also been into Sam/Vala though...
I think for canon I like Sam/Jack but I love Sam/Janet for fics, icons, wallpapers more... I think... it just all depends on my mood I guess

Me, I'm a spoiler addict. I read spoilers on GW for a couple of years (or more) but didn't venture into the threads. Eventually, I did venture into the threads and was totally lost. Since I really like Sam, I ventured into this thread and began to read the posts. Many of the posts had me ROTFL. It took me while to delurk and say hello. Someone asked for help on Celeeb and then I was hooked. Took me a while to get off that addiction. Although I still lurk, I'm not as shy as I once was. I read the thread almost daily (ok, daily, hubby tried to hide my labtop on vacation and I finally had to give it up).

Any other tales? Anyone?

Actually I am not 100% sure I know I lurked here for 2 years (or so) when I was at Uni, since I only had internet when i came home, i couldn't spend my internet time on a forum so I never joined, until I finished uni and then I started posting immediatly here and on S/J thread. Not sure if I ever did the whole introduction thing, I just jumped in and started posting...

Hello everyone! Its been forever since I've stopped by, but I couldn't resist reading spoilers any longer so I thought I'd stop by and say hello. (I can't believe I lasted this long.) I see we've been discussing what brought us to Samanda. I lurked on S/J for a long time, but the day I joined my second post was on Samanda (and that was my first visit here). That was about the time we did the Celebrity game and that had a part in getting me hooked. This is a great bunch of people. I can't believe I haven't even visited since July. That is really bad.

Can't wait til the new season on SGA starts. It sounds fantastic!

I discovered fanfiction first... I was amazed people were actually writing really great stories of my favorite show. I loved the chemistry on screen between the 4 main characters, and the fact that there was a strong female character which was rare on TV at the time in MO! I finally ventured into the forum and was very hesitant to get involved. I think my first post was on the fanfiction thread.

Then I discovered our neighbors across the pond was already watching season 7! So I hung out on the shipper thread, because I had been a shipper since the end of s3 and to get any details with out being completely spoiled (lol well that didn't exactly work ) and then someone mentioned SaGT... so I ventured in here with it's royal court and putting together the Red Book. So there were lots of great posts not just on Sam but on Amanda as well from people that had met her. So discovering this great character that really was a role model for many women, girls of all ages, was actually being played by a great actress a fan was born

For all those new to the thread there are a lot of great people here with various like and dislikes, but we all have at least one thing in common and that is the respect for the character and the actress. There is something for everyone, pics, poems, in-depth discussions, crazy posts, humorous posts, fic recommendations, etc. So WELCOME to all the newbies it's great to see you here!!

How did we all find our way to GW and SAGC?

The first SG-1 episode for me was Stronghold. I kind of liked it, so I started watching earlier season episodes the week after, among them were Singularity and Solitudes. Within a week, I became an SG-1 fan and Sam became my favorite character, though I also liked the others very much. The following Friday my tape ran out right after Prometheus was blown up at Ethon. I wanted to find out if Carter had died, so I started googling for an SG-1 site and found GW. At first I just read about the episodes. Later on, a comment for one of the episodes pointed me to SAGC and I liked this thread instantly. I love reading comments from Sam’s fans. I also liked the JS ship thread.
