Comparatively, it's definitely one of the less common ones, at least in my experience. And they were together for a while, in an alternate reality.

Yeah I'd say Sam/Narim shippers are rarer than Sam/Marty/Lantash

They are probably out there, just buried underneath the multitude of ships with bigger following.

I'd rather ship Narim/Schrodinger than Narim/Sam. Just sayin'.

Well, we all know Sam likes the "lunatic fringe" although a guy who synthesises my voice whilst I'm in another galaxy to use as his doorbell and records his "love" for me after knowing me for 5 minutes would have me calling the cops not giving him my cat lol!

Like Alec Colson, he gives me the creeps! I remember watching that ep recently and forgot how catty Jack was about Colson to Sam. I remembered watching it the first time and my reaction being "Whoa! Back up! Am I missing something? What just happened there?!" - then I found out that in the original script, Colson (the millionaire "charming" British scientist playboy) was Sam's ex but they scrapped it. Clearly not before they filmed that first scene with Rick though. Jeez, jealous much, Jack? (He snaps something like "some of us know him better than others" at Sam when she's defending him, even she looks shocked so she's either *that* good an actress or Rick didn't tell her he was gonna react like that lol)

Totally agree on Colson. For one, I couldn't get past him as having played the dad from The Nanny, so that kind of killed the ep for me the first time I saw it. I don't know if he struck me as creepy so much as smarmy.
I also find Agent Barrett smarmy. Maybe the way he felt he needed to protect Sam from the explosion by landing on top of her. Dude, she's tougher than you. Don't be so presumptuous.

Haha! I love how she's like "What are you doing? Get off me!" Don't get me wrong, I sorta like Barrett. But he's punching waay above his weight with Sam. There's no way in a million years she'd go for him. He also can't really see past the hot blonde thing and Sam is so much more than that, he just doesn't really "get" her at all.

First, I'll agree that Sam/Martouf/Lantash is rare. I know of less than a handful of people who ship them, and fewer that writes fic, at least nowadays.

Second, I would say that a ship being canon and a ship being rare is two completely different things. A ship can be canon and still rare (=only popular among few), and it can be uncanon and popular/not rare (and so on).

Canon ships like Daniel/Sha're and Jack/Sara are rare, no matter how canon they are.

Jack/Daniel is not canon, but it is pretty popular and so not rare.

Oh, and I'd say that Sam/Jack and Sam/Martouf/Lantash is probably about equal on the canon scale, i.e. neither are they completely canon with onscreen proof, but they are somewhat canon (they're canon in alternate universes, and the participants in the ships have expressed interest in each other - Sam has show canon interest in Jack and canon interest in Martouf/Lantash, and Jack has shown canon interest in Sam, and for Martouf/Lantash we have declared love for Sam).

For the record, I ship neither of those pairings.

Very good point, Blue Mushroom. Canon and popular are two separate things.

For example, Sam/Pete is undeniably canon but I'm pretty sure it's not that popular amongst fandom members. My own preferences aside, I could only ever find about 5 Sam/Pete fics that were *for* that pairing (I don't count the many hundreds of Sam/Pete labelled fics where she ends up with Jack, they're not Sam/Pete, they're Sam/Jack with Pete tagging along for the ride!)

Canon is also a very grey area. What some people consider to be "good enough", others see as pure speculation or even projecting something that isn't there.

Which according to the LJ community sg_rarepairings are considered a rare pairing.

                              In SGA I'm probably one who's considered swimming upstream instead of mainstream -- Kate/Teyla, Kate/John, Teyla/Kanaan, Lorne/Parrish, Kate/Elizabeth, ...

I get that with other shows.

                                Spoiler:
I was a total Catherine/Grissom, Catherine/Nick and Horatio/Calleigh shipper in the CSI fandom for years but none of those are canon nor, as far as I'm aware, all that popular.

The Law and Order franchise kills me as far as ship goes. I mean, there's the *very* obvious Elliot/Olivia thing that they almost-but-chickened-out on (why have him almost divorce his wife then get them back together?! Argh!) but Goren and Eames were Mulder and Scully 2.0 and yet zip. zilch. nada. Dick Wolf, you make me so mad!!!

On Stargate, Elliot/Hailey had some great potential but then they killed him. Oops!

I tend to give up on shows now where my preferred pairing clearly isn't in the writers' plan. I've been burned with too many shows to make it worth my while watching. I think the problem also lies with the writers. There are not enough writers out there who can write a convincing resolution to a relationship without it becoming cliche or boring.

Joss Whedon (Buffy) was one of the few that, even when I disagreed with his pairings, I could kind of get behind the logic and the characters were so well-developed in their own right that it was more of a minor irritation than a complete turn-off (with one exception - Cordelia/Angel - seriously, WT *actual* F?)
