I think MGM filed bankruptcy, the one where you can reorganize and have a plan to pay your creditors, but still stay in business. There may be some money for the movies after all the reorganization is done.

MGM filed what is called a pre-packaged bankruptcy, which means they had already worked out all of the contentious details before going filing. The court approved the plan on Dec. 2. The studio should emerge from bankruptcy in the next couple of weeks and begin financing new projects at the beginning of the year. Stargate was listed among MGM's most valuable money-making assests in the court documents and is likely to receive some attention from the studio soon. So I would not give up hope yet.
