So whats with all the talk of fireworks? Completely clueless over here as to what UK holiday in November requires fireworks......

Bonfire night. Not an official festival but a rememberance of when a keen eyed security cop at the Houses of Parliament spotted lots of barrels of gun powder and prevented a Catholic plot to blow up the Protestant Parliament in 1605.
We burn the ring leader in effigy, Guido Fawkes.


Actually, it's much older, we had bonfires for Samhain, the Celtic New Year on 31st October for millennia before the introducion of new fangled religions such as Christianity.

My you post alot. I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep up with this thread, but the pictures are too good to quit looking. To my suprise I think I have a blue eyes pic no one has posted today.


Since you have been so welcoming I hope maybe you can answer a couple questions. I've noticed most people in repliess quote the link instead of the image itself. Is there protocol for this or is it just individual preference?

I've gotten most of my reputation points from this group (thank you all). Are you supposed to reply to all those posters or just read them and move on?

I've noticed we have a theme for each day. Is there a list anywhere or do you just pick it up as you go along?

And because you read this far in a thread that doesn't have (or need ) alot of words. Not alot of blue eyes showing but still a nice pic.

Yeah we knew early yesterday DJF.......lots of huggies and consoling for Mazz and Ronja a few pages back I think....but at least they've got Cliff Simon and Seshat's darling Graham Simmons now...so they should be having a great time....Mazz and Ronja certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves when we spoke on msn last night so hopefully it's still going to be a good weekend....

Fabby news about Michael isn't it? ......can't wait to see it but have absolutely NO idea when it will air over here!....never watched it myself....

It's primarily to help those poor souls on dialup. You should only have links in your quoted replies and the picture size should be no bigger than 700x400??? (There's more detail in the forum FAQs.)

Are you supposed to reply to all those posters or just read them and move on? You don't have to reply to those who give you green. (or even red for that matter.)

I've noticed we have a theme for each day. Is there a list anywhere or do you just pick it up as you go along? We had an original list of the themes, but they keep getting added to, so each day has about three or four themes to it (except for maybe Friday which is always Blue Eyes Friday.)

While DJF kindly goes to get the boxes o'clones , I'll just add that there's a list (and I'm sure some kind hussy will post it in a moment ), but you are in no way obligated to follow it! Just post whatever piccies you like (within the rules for pic size and PG-ability). We sometimes use themes (or make up new ones) just to entertain ourselves in here.

November the 5th....Bonfire Night ....400 years ago tomorrow a man called Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament....it didn't succeed and it's a tradition to celebrate by making an effigy of him (called a "Guy") and burn it ...it's accompanied by many many fireworks and if you're lucky and get a good party lovely hot food like sausages and potatoes baked in their skins....*sighs* we used to have some lovely Bonfire parties at my parent's old house ...

Hmmm well I guess that this would be a celebration if your a Protestant. What do the Catholics think about all this celebration over burning one of their own religion. It does bring up some very interesting questions. I'll have to check out those links, thanks muchly Foxy.

Hey, I was reading this.. ummm.. what was that shiznit...it was quite funny.. it was from one of the million fan sites out there, anyways..

Some of the alternate themes that have been brought into play recently are Teal'c and Danny Tuesday (for those that prefer Daniel without headgear), Weapons Wednesday, and Thing Thursday, as well as Zaturday (that's all Seshat right there ). I think Frinkle Friday came into play a few weeks back and something about Smile Sunday.....

Anyways feel free to go with whatever moves you on any particular day. If tongue porn's your thing, then go for it, but feel free to post whatever you feel like.
