The anti-Vala people (I wanted to say morons) are busy convincing themselves that Vala's presence on the team doesn't make sense, so perhaps we should discuss here that her presence on the team is absolutely essential?

Let's see....

- She's smart *you mean smart-a$$* and still has means and possibilities as she proved in CoT when she got them a ship. *oh, please, that was obviously a desperate attempt by the writers to justify her being there*
Landry trusted her to succeed *Landry! Don't even get me started on him.*

- She was prepared to die for a person (Daniel - F&B) and the "greater good" (Beachhead) *She's a thief and a liar!*

- She was a thief and a liar. *She's a thief and.... Hey, that's my phrase!"* She knows about the shadier parts of the galaxies first hand, not just through intel.

- The events of Memento Mori *Oh, I'm sure Cambo had his fun.* obviously showed the others that they want her to also be officially a member of the team.


Why should she part of SG-1?
In the end it comes down to: Do I accept that or not? You have to always keep in mind that in the end it's a TV show.
There are as many good reasons for her to be part of SG-1 as there are for her to be "just" a member of the Stargate program in general.
Why was Teal'c made part of SG-1?
It's basically the same situation, though I'll readily admit that they have very different personalities.

Vala was obviously overjoyed and honored to become part of the team. It means something to her and she won't just throw away the trust the others have in her, at least not with malicious intend.
