Technical and Historical Notes:
The Posieden is the first ship solely designed by the Japanease. After the disasterous attack on Earth by the Wraith and strained tensions with the Aschen it was deemed that a new ship to replace the long lived Aegis class carrier should be built.
The Japanease took it onto themselves to build this carrier, there were many rival ships also under contruction at this time but the Japanease sought to once again stand as one of the most advanced people on the globe. Designs for this ship were first put up in 2040 it included the most up to date technology the Tau'ri had and then some. It was the carrier the GATO had dreamed of, the capacity to carry vastly more fighters than any other ship in our fleet and enough ordance to defend our squadrans from enemy fighters and bombers of almost any number.
This however was not the greatest advantage of the Posieden, the design also included a perfected version of the ARIES point defense computer network the most powerful anti fighter/ballistic system ever concieved. ARIES can be traced back to the Wraith wars where it was first imagined. In 2020 the Wraith war was hotting up and our carriers and fighters often found themselves vastly outnumbered by darts and bombers the Tau'ri needed a system that could distinguish between the Tau'ri fighters and missiles and the enemies and act accordingly to neutralise threats. It became a major challenge of the war to perfect ARIES a challenge which in the end proved impossible. None of our advanced allies had ever attempted nor needed such an effective defense system so we had no superior knowledge to draw on. The difficulty was that we could tie all our weapons into a central coomputer network which could recognise threats and act to destroy them but the computers had no way to distinguish between the enemy fighters and our own fighters and missiles, in the end the project was shelved and the focus returned to more offensive technologies.
The Japanease however did not give up so easily, in 2037 LG which was one of the few companies to benifet from the devastation the Wraith left (by buying out many smaller weakened companies) took it upon themselves to refine and perfect ARIES. Eventually they did the impossible and succeeded. Using lessons learnt from reverse engineering asgard style transports and studying both asgard and lantian computers they were able to program ARIES to recognise Tau'ri fighters and missiles by the unique signiture given off by their power cores and metallic make up. The word impressive was an understatement, the system when activated could now detect and assess threats in real time and triangelate coil guns to eliminate the threat in lightning time with no risk to our own fighters due to safety protecalls.
The design was finished but the Japanease themselves had no facilities to build such a large craft as a result the ship designs were sold to the major ship building countries of GATO who as part of the contract would transfer 1 in 3 of every batch of Posiedens to the Japanease themselves.
The Posieden served a long illustrious carrier *sp* in the GATO fleets though it was tarnished in 2043 when one of these ships was stolen by the pirate syndicate. The carrier was heavily modified and turned into a battleship with black market technology and raided important facilities for years before it disappeared.
The first ship came out of dry dock on 2042 and has since been an irreplacable part of our military.
