Honestly, there are few episodes that I really truly dislike. Sure, I never liked the ship and that is a determining factor in some of my votes, but I vote for most of the episodes I vote for because they were either boring or pointless, or I didn't like a certain storyline or aspect of the episode. There are very dew episodes that I consider to be all or even mostly bad.
Alice in Chains,Metallica,Jerry Cantrell.
Pure metal. Go Red Sox and Patriots! My favorite CD ATM: Master of Puppets, by Metallica.
Just my two cents, but I don't think it's possible to be entirely objective about the voting. What makes a good episode for me may not for someone else--and this tournament is making that even more clear to me as we discuss what we like or dislike about certain episodes. :-) I think that my feelings about certain characters or storylines will affect how I vote because it affects whether or not I actually saw it as a good episode or a poorly written and/or poorly executed one.
Take Need, for example. I could write a thesis on that episode about what it said about the characters and their relationships. hehe (In fact, others with more insight and better writing skills than I actually have written essays about it--fascinating stuff!) My daughter and I have discussed this episode endlessly and I've read/posted about it in LiveJournal comments and on countless message board threads. I love that episode, but others see it as an episode that showed Daniel acting badly (as a character) or just had OTT acting (when I thought the acting was outstanding--some of the best in the entire series). I love complexity of character. I don't want my characters to be perfect. Perfect = boring. :-)
I'm not sure about others here, but I originally dropped by this thread after the 6th round and after seeing which episodes had already been voted off I decided not to bother. To be honest, until this poll was posted on the Sam thread, it just seemed to me that this was another Daniel centric poll.
It's funny that you say this, because when I first came here at the beginning of the tournament, I thought the exact opposite--that everyone here is/was pro-ship--especially as I saw pretty much all of my most favorite episodes get voted off in the earliest rounds and/or getting a ton of votes. Now, though, I realize that a lot of favorite episodes on both sides have been voted off, and everyone has their own reasons for how they vote--including me. :-) I was sad at first and did consider not sticking around, but everyone here is so very nice, and the tournament itself is very addicting, isn't it? :-) I can't stay away.
Thank you again, Katerine, for taking the time to do this. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's so much fun so I'm glad you are willing to do it. :-)
ETA: I also feel like I have a much greater understanding of why people like the show or certain aspects of the show from a much wider perspective than I had before. I avoided this forum for a long time because I wasn't sure I'd be welcome here, but it's been fun so far.
