I seem to recall both B'aal and Vala having voice modulators at some point, but I'm not sure about the eyes.

I know Vala did, but it was because she no longer is a host, and can't create that sound on her own. I'm just curious if it was addressed on the show or if it wasn't, perhaps we have good writers and thinkers who wrote it into fic.

I don't know about the voice modulators... the modulated voice may actually be a direct result of the symbiote controlling the vocal cords. It's possible that when a symbiote or Goa'uld is speaking, the natural effect is the double timbre we hear, while Goa'ulds or Tok'ra trying to hide have to exert extra effort and control to make the voice sound "human".

As for the eyes, that's an interesting concept. From how it was presented on the show, the eyes do seem to glow. But if it were reality, and not an effect reliant upon the means and technique of an editing crew, it may be that the "glow" is in fact a biological/chemical reaction to something a symbiote releases when under duress or in a rage. The reaction induces an ultra-reflective sheen or fluid coating the cornea. Perhaps the naquadah enhances the effect, making it visible to the naked eye of others.

But that's just one of the half-baked ideas I just had in a half-minute of speed-thinking. Maybe someone should ask Joe Malozzi the next time he does a Q and A on his blog.




P.S. I think I'm really going to like this instructor of mine. I emailed him to see which format he'd like to receive the writing sample (Word, Notepad, OpenOffice, whatever) and he emailed back to both provide an answer and point out that in all his years teaching the class, I was the only one who's asked the question.

So, since I now must completely write two chapters, for the most part at least. I can think up some new ideas and flashback scenes. Since I am using DeviantART to upload my stories now {some readers of ffn are just plain mean and insulting} I have also been writing some short stories unrealted to startgate and more for other characters and plots in other fandoms I am working on.

So in an way, writing, and roleplaying work together because right now I am writing, listening to Daft Punk's Tron Legacy sound track and ontop of that I am also writing up some plotlines, and also trying to outline where Project One; Ultimainum will head.

I think I am rambling.....

This afternoon when I was checking Facebook for something I saw that my sister is reading Fifty Shades of Grey! I am shocked! That girl has no taste at all. She even told someone else they should read it, because it was fun and a great book! My mother, who normally has good taste in books and has read practically all her life, even liked her post!

What is the world coming to? I mean, my sister... okay, she's finally gotten into books about a year ago, after we have all urged her to read more for years. Almost everyone in my family (both sides) likes to read and has bookcases filled with all kinds of books, so my sister was always the odd one out and never wanted to follow our example until recently (and now she's even asking me to rec books and to borrow mine) and she even asked for a book for her birthday. I was so proud.

So, you can imagine my disappointment upon seeing this status update...

As far as I know, 50SG is Twilight fanfiction, published. What I understand, three more books are with it ? Personally I never got the hang of vampire books or similar, heck not even werewolf books got to me, {unless it was through WhiteWolf Publishing, which case their books are AWESOME!}, personally I was more into history and documentaries and also mystery novels {as a kid my brother had pretty much every Hard Boys book ever published, out of boredom I read a few and personally enjoyed them}

But personally, the BEST writer for mysteries, none will EVER beat Agatha Christie! I LOVE Muder on the Orient Express. The movie editions of it are well done with David Sushet. {did I spell that right ?}

Heck why do I want to write a fanfic that takes place on a train now ???

From what I've heard from other people who've read the book after hearing the hype about this 'mommy porn' the gutter is actually quite tame, repetitive and boring... Might not even qualify under what I see as gutter!

Yep. What I'm reading bounces back and forth between talking about how lame, boring, and repetitive it is and honest concern that inexperienced young women will view this as normal and desirable in a relationship (not even talking about the sex here, but rather the controlling nature of the character and how he stalks and completely isolates the girl).

What a way to ruin two perfectly good names too. Saddening to think that the writer that wrote it started out writing fanfiction before going fully original. Why anyone these days enjoys reading sex scenes is beyond me, I can't even stand that stuff in MOVIES, let alone books!
