      I've always thought it was weird that they made Jack an engineer, given the need for higher math and physics it takes. I think he'd make a good practical engineer but (especially as portrayed in the later years of the series) that he doesn't have the skills for the academic portion. I also think a degree in civil engineering would've made more sense than just "engineering", since blowing up things like bridges and buildings would require an understanding of how they're built.

        Civil engineering would make more sense for Jack. That would've come in handy for the black ops he did.

          Yeah. I don't write fan-fiction, but I've decided that Jack has a bachelors in civil engineering with a masters in history (focusing on the use of espionage during the American Civil War). Definitely not top of his class material, at least not academically.

                Jack has a Vietnam service medal. My personal chronology has Jack either volunteering or getting drafted into the Air Force where he got into a combat situation and got noticed. This notice is what got him recruited into Black Ops and getting into USAFA.
                No Sam w/o a Jack and no Jack w/o a Sam.

                  Only on one of his medal racks. In the other one it's been replaced with a Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (with a bronze cluster) and an AF Training Ribbon, I believe.

                      I don't, personally, but one exists (or at least, it existed 2-3 years ago). I can't remember who, but someone had posted screen caps of everything on the walls in Jack's office. I'm not sure whether it was in a gallery here on Gateworld or on another site. Sorry, not much help.

                                Do you mean the hats that they wear with their dress blues? If so, they're called uniform caps and a nickname for them is "covers".
