This morning a bunch of Community Service workers turned up to wage war on the brambles at the top of my garden. They were nice, polite and very hard-working - blitzed the whole area in a couple of hours! And not a single complaint about the constant drizzle, which made the whole enterprise a very cold, wet and muddy experience for them. Could not praise them enough - and I made sure to thank each of them individually. They all left with smiles on their faces

They made a surprisingly quick job of it, and they chopped everything up so that it all fitted into three large compost bags - I expected them fill at least six

I got chatting to the guy in charge, and it turns out he runs a little gradening/handyman business. I told him some of the jobs I will need some help with when the weather improves (e.g. demolish and dump the leaky shed, get rid of all the junk up in the attic), and he gave me his phone number so I can get in touch when I'm ready to get started. All in all a productive day
