Flippy, you have my sympathy. I fear that the dreaded "Con Crud" has struck me also, filling my sinuses with cotton wool.

Did anybody else use the M25 last night on their way home? We left the hotel about 8, hit the motorway and then hit a traffic jam. It took us an hour to travel 1 mile! A crane had come off a low loader in the roadworks.

I'm starting to have post-con blues after reading this thread. I had a great time but was far too shy to chat to people really other than the other ladies on the Singularity table at the cocktail party, a Swedish lass called Katarina (and then all too briefly) and a couple of people I was stood next to at the autograph and photo queues. And I missed the auction and disco on the Saturday as I sneaked out to visit some friends at Crystal Palace. Amanda was and is absolutely lovely. There were so many things I wanted to say & ask but I was again too shy. I was very tempted to say "Eh eh eeeeeh!" as I handed my photos over to be signed but that would've been far too silly.

A big thank you to everyone at Gabit for a fabulous event. Which record will we go for next time?
Oh honey. You say potato, I say vodka!

So glad you all had fun. How many people were there?

FF, who far prefers small cons to big ones like Worldcon. And is off to a SF con for about 200 people this weekend.

Ummm, I'm not 100% sure, originally I think it said that it was limited to 400 tickets but I'm not sure how many fans were there in total (does anyone know?) and yes small cons are such great fun, there was a wonderful atmosphere at Gabit and it really felt that everyone was a part of it plus the Gabit 4 and their staff were all so friendly and approachable, you felt like nothing was too much trouble and they were going to bend over backwards to amke sure everyone had a wonderful time. It was really something special.

(((FF))) hope you have fun at your con this weekend too

                Awww, Rune!! [hugs]

SpaceMinx - you should've said 'Hi', maybe next time, eh?

I think they said there were about 250 people there? I echo all Rune's comments about the G4 and the Gabit staff and as for Amanda....
                *happy sigh*

Edited to add: Am no longer a symbiote. Oo-er!

That's a nice number, enough to make the place buzz, not so many it becomes anonymous.
I've run a small convention (fourth British filk con, for about 120) and a huge convention (Eastercon for about 900) and running fan cons is hard work but incredibly satisfying.
The guests we have are SF and fantasy writers for the most part but meeting them, getting to know them and socialising with them is all part of the fun.

I'm so glad Amanda and all her fans had such a nice time.

Rar on the higher evolutionary status, flippy.

hi newbie here - enticed by meeting the wonderful FHBagpus at tea.
really just a hello from me, to say "holy moly" what a bloody brilliant weekend (G4, staff, thomasina, oh and that amanda chickie - thank you!).
great to meet so many of you and for the particular pleasure of partaking of tea with a certain bagpus (oh and that amanda chickie). fab fab fab.
Baggie, i owe you a pint/a large cup of tea and scones or three english pounds - thank you for being a lifesaver and helping me get the hoppa (otherwise, i would still be at the renaissance which, i am sure, would lose its charms without a) a room to stay in b) a bunch of bonkers at fans and c) that amanda chickie.
                      great to meet you all!

Anytime you feel down, just take a good look at your picture with Amanda and the other pics and gifts you brought home, and have a golden moment all over again.

Should these golden moments also involve orange wigs, boas ,Snickers spread ,Kliggs' home baked cookies,Orange Dust Mice,Guinness-Lite,mobile phones going nuts,101 uses of the humble orange Glo-stick,strange little jiggy dances, cute puppies,Spoon-less Clangers, Scruffy little Pink cats, and a "Blether" t-shirt...then how the heck did you channel me !

It is Monday. It's over now
A great weekend? Yes, it was WOW!
What a good time was had by all
It was such fun - we had a ball!

I'd like to thank the Gabit crew
Yes, the G4 and stewards too
They helped us out, kept us at ease
For everyone they tried to please.

                              The organization was so fine
No long queues so no hours in line
Legends brought tons of stuff to sell
I spent my money really well!

                              Amanda really is a saint
She did so much without complaint
During her talks my sides I'd clutch
I can't remember when I've laughed so much!

The Guinness chap was there to see
                              Us all stretching our 'Curly-Wurly'
Covered in chocolate we did get
But a new world record we did set!

                              A special memory of mine
Was meeting friends I've made online
They're all so nice, it was first-rate
                              To talk....and talk about Stargate.

For charity lots of cash we made
The excitement of the auction will never fade
Someone, somewhere has lots to gain
As there's enough for one Hearing Dog to train!

Before I burst out into tears
                              Thanks Amanda, G4, Gabiteers
Oh - one last thing I have to do
Is ask, "When, oh when is Gabit 2?"
