dunno how it is there, but here you do get a copy of the marriage license...that's signed by the two of you and whomever officiates then it sent in to make the marriage official in the eyes of the law

We get a certificate but it's not what they call the "official" cert...that is to say, the one we get on the day...the one we sign and have our witnesses and officiator sign, that's what we get...but the official certificate is held in the registry of births, deaths and marriages!
