I am happy Atlantis and Sanctuary are doing well!
Forgive me for being dense, and you probably have explained this before, but how does Atlantis get a 1.5 with 2.02 million viewers yet Sanctuary gets a 1.6 with 2.0?

The viewer per household is always changing. Basically Atlantis had more viewers in the households that watched the finale vs The households that watched the Sanctuary finale.

Also, the ratings point could be a lot closer than people think since they are rounded. For an example, the eps could of looked like this..

SGA - 1.54, will be rounded down to a (1.5)
Sanctuary - 1.55, will be rounded up to a (1.6)

A 0.1 difference is such an insignificant difference but because the network rounds the numbers it looks like an entire ratings point.

It is why I like to see the viewer totals rather than a ratings point.

I am so happy. They deserved it.
"I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."

"Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."

"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all."

The 1.5 and 1.6 are household numbers representing the percentage of households that watched the show. The number of viewers can be different depending on how many viewers are watching per household. Sanctuary apparently had more people watching by themselves than Atlantis did. Hence, they could have more households watching, but fewer people.

Thanks for that explaination...I was able to understand it!

So, which is more important to the sponsers? More households or more viewers? I usually only see the 1.5 household numbers when I see ratings.

It will be interesting to see if the new show follows SGA or Sanctuary in viewing habits - seeing it as a group (family) or by themselves (not really as a family).

Viewers. However, advertisers buy based on a specific demographic they are looking for. Some may be looking at how Adults between 18 and 49 watched. Others may be looking at women between 25 and 54. The ones selling Viagra may be looking at men over 45. It varies from one advertiser to the next. If you look at the ads in the show and detect any patterns, you can almost guess what demographic the show does best for. If you see lots and lots of pharmaceutical ads, chances are the audience is older.

So, the number of viewers often depends on the sex and age of those viewers.

Common demographics that are mentioned in articles like SciFi's press release are Adults 18-49 or Adults 25-54.

We rock!! We had a lot of fun the last several days, lots of discussions and someone won a Season 4 DVD set for guessing a scene from the past 5 years of Stargate Atlantis.

The show will be missed, but now it's time to focus on BSG, then Stargate Universe.

Number 7 doesn't sound too good to me.
