Elizabeth Christensen said Exo has a release date of 08 December. I hope it doesn't get delayed again. I've been waiting since August.....and it sounds promising in the Shep whump department.

My thoughts on on what a "Hero" is.

I believe that a hero is a person that does what needs to be done NO MATTER WHAT. They don't need to be perfect or super strong physically. They don't need to be a genius or emotionally stable. They don't even need to be attractive. They just need to be able to complete the task at hand.

Shep fills that bill perfectly. He does have some of the stereotypical characteristics; he is smart, he is strong, and whoo boy he is attractive. What makes him a Hero in my eyes is that he is willing to go to any lengths to finish the all important task of saving everyone's collective tushies. He is willing to do that everytime he needs to.

I don't want him to be Superman. I prefer Batman who has a past that is a little dark. I want a peek into Shep's past to see if it has any bearing on the man he is now. It may not, but I want to find out.

Very good description! Guess tha'ts why I actually like the new James Bond (Daniel Craig) as that Bond is flawed, makes mistakes (some whoppers) but still gets the job done (the other bonds were tooooo perfect)

I mean in RETURN Part 1, he is sacrificing his career to save Atlantis cuz the nitwits back on Earth don't know how to do it.

Joe said at the con that it's hard for the writers to do backstory because they don't want to do stories where everyone sits around and talks about their life. They want to weave a backstory into a current story and have it come out like that. That being said, maybe it's time they put Shep in a situation where his backstory does come out for whatever reason. If Joe recognizes the issue, then the writers should!

Let me see, how to introduce Shep's backstory into a plot... Ah, bring in someone from his past (which is not just sitting around talking about it), or better yet, ahve his FATHER visit (I really, REALLY want to see what's going on with that relationship, that is, if dad is alive - hard to tell). Cripes, it's not rocket science.....

those scenes, to me, said he is a closet dork (not that I mind dorkiness in fact I love it)

His poster of johnny cash, in every "personal space" scene we see suggests he likes the whole rebel thing...

I have a suspicion that he isn't an academy grad... I think joined the AF through ROTC... maybe because he WAS close to his father at one point, or because that was the expectation of him from his father.

Sorry, I know this is more of a general discussion, but....

It would be great if Kolya caught up with him again, maybe tortured him, or forced him to watch while members of his team were tortured... then had him think back to other people he let down through the years... get some backstory in that way.

And that could make a whumpalicious ep too! Maybe we could get injured Shep, Dad visits in the infirmary, and there's confrontation - Dad calling him a screwup, yadda yadda yadda! I mean, c'mon, if the fanfic writers can figure out how to give backstory, why can't the show writers?

*sigh* I wish. Found myself thinking along those lines when watching the latest Bond movie. Particularly the scene where:

Bond gets poisoned and is staggering around and then having to try and treat himself in the car with injections and a mini-defbrillator and his heart stops and he passes out! *eeep!*

I was watching the film and enjoying it but also, at the same time, thinking, "Oooh I'd love to see that happen to Sheppy!"

I've spent most of my evening arguing with the pro-Sam faction on the Tapping to Atlantis thread... *sigh*

You could also have him tortured by some sort of device that makes him relieve every worst memory over and over in detail....oh wait, I guess they did that in Stargate already.

Maybe John could get infected with something or other that causes all his self-perceived "mistakes" (like people he couldn't save) to show up to him and start accusing him of things and he starts going nuts and his backstory comes out that way.


Hmmmmm.......I suppose you could always have his father turn out to be a huge ranking military guy who's a total jerk, he visits Atlantis and starts treaing John like crap, and John talks about his life with his teammates as they go along. You could also have the standard episode that's been done in other shows where he is trapped somewhere, possibly dying, and he starts talking with whoever he's trapped with about life and the answer to everything. It's 42 by the way.

Ok..I like this idea....nothing like demons from the past sneaking up on you and causing good emotional angst.


Ya know, I had a dream where Sheppy's dad came to Atlantis via the Daedy....tense moments when they first meet...then I woke up. Hrmph!

I don't think I can be counted as spoiler free anymore since I saw the episode. but I will still support those who are!

I'm about as spoiler free as I am chocolate free...but I greatly admire those who restrain themsleves. I will endeavour to support them in their quest for life without spoilers

Thanks Guys for supporting us in our non spoiler quest. It is a difficult path we follow..but one with many rewards come March. I hope.
